New Firedragon version!

I have a new problem. It’s been happening ever since I upgraded to 11.8.2, but now I’ve changed enough settings to be fairly sure it’s just a Firedragon issue… because it isn’t happening in Floorp.

I cannot add items to my cart on eBay. The screen turns white and nothing else happens. It’s supposed to create a popup. It used to work because I use eBay a lot.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Something like this?

Yes. My FireDragon gives me nothing.

Something is very wrong. I have already deleted my profile and started over. Same result.

I just get this:

Edit:

I disabled all extensions and it works now. I will have to figure out which one was causing this.

I admit I cannot reproduce that one, even with fingerprinting enabled.

What is your User Agent returned by this URL?

Sorry, it was Dark Reader… which is weird because I’ve always used Dark Reader. I changed it to a different filter mode and it works.

Works for me with Dark Reader and its default settings.
BUT, I have found out Dark Reader breaks some very rare websites. In my case it’s my financial institution’s website I cannot connect to at all. lolll

Funny it seems to work fine for some people and others not on the same website… ah well, that’s a tricky one, glad you found it.

I like DarkReader, but there are way too many sites that it’s simply not worth the hassle. IMO it should not be installed with the browser. I’ve never been a fan of including non-security addons to the browser during install.

Now that said I noticed in Garuda and Cachy OS that when I click a link in my email it does open in FD-N but FD-N is not brought to the forefront. I actually have to go to the panel and click FD-N there to bring it to the forefront.

I have used…

…for many years on Firefox and more recently Floorp. It’s a tiny add-on, and it gives very few problems.

I actually really like that Dark Reader is included with Firedragon. The reason eBay wasn’t working is that I had Dark Reader set on a different mode, to deal with Ebay’s issues. Making listings with Dark Reader on the default mode doesn’t really work, text turns invisible. None of the dark mode extensions seem to be able to cover every website. It’s difficult dealing with a broken internet where somehow people thought it made sense to turn every computer screen into the equivalent of staring into headlights.

I do always keep a backup dark mode extension for the sites Dark Reader just can’t handle properly with any of its modes. The one Colin recommends (Dark Background and Light Text) is my failsafe… it’s a bit extreme on the contrast but the invert mode always works, at lest in that it won’t make any text turn invisible. But it’s less pleasing to look at compared to Dark Reader when Dark Reader is working 100% correctly.

It has nothing to do with security, it’s to keep the dark mode theme.

That’s taking what I said out of context. What I mean is I gave up a long time ago on coming down on browser creators for adding 3rd part addons into the browser as long as they were security apps. You may remember we had a few distros that thought it was a good idea to add up to a dozen add-ons and only a couple of them security add-ons. It got annoying fast. As far as Dark Reader it’s one 50% love it and 50% hate it.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks

The same thing happens to me

FireDragon without a default dark mode would be super sad, it would break the whole aesthetic of Dr460nized.

I just looked at Dark Reader’s git hub… I should probably start reporting issues with sites there, rather than just throw my hands up and use alternate extensions. There’s already several eBay bugs that have been reported. There’s probably no reason any site needs to stay broken.

What email? A separate app that launches the default browser to display the page?

What panel? Plasma Panel, the Task Manager in there?

Version 11.9.0-1 is out.

Changelog
  • Loosen Fingerprinting settings to allow users to change in UI without resetting
  • Floorp changes

Yes Zoho Mail desktop client. With any other browser the browser comes to the forefront when a link is clicked in an email. I need to clarify that if FD-N is already open it doesn’t come to the forefront, but if I’m clicking a link in an email and FD-N isn’t open the browser is launched and brought to the forefront.

Icons-Only Task Manager on the default Plasma panel.

Sounds surprising in one situation it would and not in the other.

What I can say is if FD is open and I click a link from another app, it opens in background tab. There are settings to control this. Both in UI and about:config.

The surprising part is why wouldn’t it do the same thing when it automatically launches the browser (cuz it’s closed).

I’m pretty sure if you play with those “open in background tab” settings it may change that behavior.
