Nemo does not count files

I was a few days ago in another dist with cinnamon and nemo, in that one it displayed below folder names like (78 files), but no matter what setting i change in nemo preferences, it refuses to show the count.

Any idea how to get it visible?

We are not responsible for Nemo.

Can you post a comparison photo?

Or is that what you mean?

Can you check what happens if you go in the Display option instead of Preview?
You should (but I also don’t use nemo) have an option Size. If so, try it.

PS: I took the chance to download and check the Garuda Cinnamon edition. Nice, old memories
Probably what you are missing (but this is set by default in the ISO file) is simply ViewStatus bar, which toggles on and off the bar at bottom of the screen, always showing file count and free space!
