Need assistance with creating a permanent environment variable on Garuda

Need help with creating a permanent environment variable and add it to PATH. Sorry if it's a small issue, but after reading articles including Arch wiki, I am getting confused and don't want to mess up any configuration files I shouldn't touch.

Some issues I came up with after reading on internet were:

  1. Most tutorial assume bash as default shell, I have changed it to zsh using Garuda Assistant.
  2. Arch wiki suggests adding variable to /etc/profile. But I need to export it to PATH as well.
  3. Some forum mentioned Garuda uses fish as default so I need to mess with fish configuration.

I have one previous experience of successfully creating this particular environment variable and appending to PATH on Manjaro Gnome, which used zsh by default. There I added the variable to /etc/profile, .zprofile and .zshrc (.zprofile and .zshrc were empty so I added these lines to the top).

Could someone help with the exact procedure to safely add a (permanent) environment variable and append this variable to PATH on Garuda as per my configuration?

(Edit) PS : I haven't tried what I did on Manjaro just to be on the safe side. Fairly new to linux, especially now that it's on bare-metal instead of VM.
