My laptop crashes when I try to shut it down and the sound equipment does not work

Nope, only pcie_aspm=off.

I rebooted my laptop and opened normally. But the issue happens from time to time. I hope the solution you gave me will work. If I experience the same problem again, I will post here. Thank you guys, very kind of you. And Garuda, which is my power animal is the best. :eagle:

Hi again. My laptop crashed again when i tried to shut down it last night. It seems the solution doesn’t work. Are there any other things you can recommend?

Any chance you have RAID enabled in your BIOS ?

I’ll summarize it roughly:
The problem has existed since the beginning, it was and is only installed with garuda-dragonized and it happens with lts/zen-kernel. The system freezes during shutdown/reboot, also via terminal command.

The 1st log is from a freeze when the power supply was connected and does not contain any useful information.
The 2nd log is full of pcieport/nvme errors and is otherwise useless.
The 3rd log is just a kernel log without errors and therefore useless.
The 4th log is just a kernel log without errors and therefore useless.

Kernel logs are not helpful in the event of a kernel panic, as it is not possible to see what generally happened before and so no potential pattern can be identified. It is also impossible to determine what happens after the shutdown is triggered.

@alaz Try disabling all power saving options in the BIOS and in the KDE Plasma system settings.
If present in BIOS: disable “USB Power Share” to. Before every shutdown, try removing all USB devices, including the Logitech mouse receiver.

After the next freeze post the output again:

journalctl -b -1 --no-pager

Can you reproduce the freezes in live sessions?

@LolFlasherNoobX FakeRAID is disabled - that’s what it says in the garuda-inxi btw

It happens with both kernels zen and lts. I checked out “USB Power Share” thing in BIOS settings and found a similar one, “Enable/Disable the power support during Hibernation and Shutdown for USB Type-A port” , and disabled it. And i’ll remove my mouse from now on.

Sorry my English not yet, I don’t understand what you mean.

Sorry, I couldn’t find a RAID setting in the BIOS.

Hi. It just freezed again and i restart my laptop and run journalctl command.

Here is output:

Thanks.

It freezes shortly after the shutdown is triggered:

After that, everything is missing, including stopping the session and the remaining KDE services.

Since you also had a freeze when you connected the power supply, I suspect at the moment that it is a KDE issue (someone here recently had a freeze when connecting the power supply).

Have you tested this:

I’m not sure what is it’s mean. I don’t use live sessions because Garuda KDE already installed.

Should I use Wayland instead of X11? Does this make a difference?

Just try both, live ISO and Wayland, we can’t do it for you

You should boot a garuda-live.iso and shut it down again, boot it and shut it down again, etc. - to test whether freezes occur during shutdown.

I just did a live logout or reboot 3 times. The 3rd time I tried unplugging the power cord and turning it off after a few seconds and it froze. I turned on my laptop and run journalctl but there was no info.

I tried turning it off with Wayland two times. The second time, when I plugged in the power cord and tried to turn it off, it froze again.

Edit: The audio hardware is not working now. :frowning:

The freeze happens at exactly the same point.

It’s interesting that it also happens during a live session. It’s also interesting that somehow the connection or disconnection of the power supply always seems to play a role - regardless of whether it freezes immediately when you connect it or afterwards when you shut it down.

To narrow this down further, try to avoid connecting and disconnecting the power supply while it’s running - so only connect and disconnect the power supply when the laptop is turned off (you don’t need to test live sessions anymore, just your installed garuda).

Yesterday i upgraded BIOS and the audio hardware came back. I removed the battery from my laptop and tested performance, balance and power save modes and also tested shutdown and reboot about 15 20 times. No freezes until now. But the keyboard’s backlights were stuck at the “highest” level. I don’t know if this is related to the BIOS update or me removing the battery.

I am also facing this issue. It USUALLY happens when I shutdown my computer after using it for a few hours. I have tried running the system on integrated graphics and on Nvidia, and different kernels (linux-lts, linux-zen, linux-amd-znver3).
The system also froze ONE TIME when I close a tab in brave and ONE time when I closed dolphin.

Hi again. I just changed power settings from balance to performance and tried to restart, and it froze. With X11 and linux-zen kernel.

If the battery is still removed, then we can rule out anything related to that. At the moment everything points to issues with power management. In the last log it goes a few steps further and apparently freezes when the session ends.

Just a shot in the dark: System Settings → Session - select “Start with an empty session” → Apply.

But that won’t help much because you also have the freezes in a live environment. Either you have a hardware problem, a problem with the BIOS or KDE is the problem.

Can you please download the garuda-cinnamon-edition and use this live.iso to test whether the laptop also freezes when shutting down? If it also freezes in this live environment, then we can rule out KDE.

I already applied this when i installed Garuda.

I use Garuda Cinnamon live and tested several times shutdown and restart. No freezes. Also i think i’m going to install it instead of KDE for a while and want to see what will be happens. If it works properly, I will reluctantly switch to Cinnamon.
