My Garuda boots, but no image?

Hello everyone! I’ve just experienced the most weird bug or idk what.

So, I was doing my biz, using onlyoffice to edit some docx, then suddenly my screen goes black, like no signal was being sent to my monitor (it was actually saying no signal detected).

Reboot, no image. I then open up my pc to see if it’s a hardware issue since I live at the sea, but there’s not even powder inside, let alone anything fishy like corrosion from sea-wind (I just bought a complete new insides for my pc because of that, so thankfully that’s not the case again).

Alright so I’ve tried to boot my backup system, aka Zorin OS on my SSD. Boots normally. Nothing out of order.

I tried to render a 120 frames animation on blender - flawless. Tried going for the Tomb Raider def. ed. benchmark - normal results, 30fps.

Tried to open Disks (from gnome) to see if the HDD where Garuda is installed was there yet, it was. I then made a self-test SMART and the results were okay.

Convinced it was not a hardware issue (and a lot relieved) I went back to see if Garuda was working. Still no image. Booted a snapshot from 13/Nov: IT WORKED! I promptly restored the snapshot… and when trying to boot on the normal system again, STILL NO IMAGE. Doesn’t even show the login splash, it only boots, shows me KDFONTOP thingy and straight up does not respond anymore.

I then lastly tried booting with a different kernel. I have Linux LTS (my main kernel) and Linux Hardened. Surprisingly, the hardened was able to boot and show image no issue.

So… I’m puzzled. Last update was like last thursday, how come I got a bad update then and only now it’s bugging? Is my LTS kernel borked or something?

Any help is absolutely appreciated on trying to figure this out.
Thank you.

That is strange! You can try reinstalling the LTS kernel and headers to see if it makes any difference. Also, this system state can cause mysterious breakages:

Try bringing your system fully up to date and reinstall the kernel all in one go like so:

garuda-update linux-lts linux-lts-headers

Oh its partially because kvantum seems to be simply ignoring the new ending in 5 thing from the new plasma updates and it keeps stopping me to upgrade so I --ignore it. What should I do on that case?

Paste the input and output of the command into the thread so we can take a look.

:: installing kvantum (1.0.10-2) breaks dependency 'kvantum-qt5' required by ant-dracula-kvantum-theme-git

As far as I can tell this package doesn’t exist anymore. My advice is to uninstall it.

paru -R ant-dracula-kvantum-theme-git

Then try updating/reinstalling the kernel again.

Just in case you can catch anything on the update that I cant, I’ll put the output here again before restarting the pc and seeing if it’s corrected.

The output was way too big, here’s the paste-bin

I’ll now restart and come back with the result on the below edit:

Result: It’s WORKINNNNN

Okay then I guess it was a bad update that’s all. Thanks for the help, Bluish, I’ll keep an eye to see if it happens again, but in any case I feel like for now the problem is solved! Thank you so much.
