I have been getting multiple instance of Conky running. Spent a long time trying to figure out why this was happening.

Changed to this setting and the issue has disappeared.

Couldn’t you just add conky to the list of “Ignored applications:” right below the “Start with an empty session” option you selected.

I’ve done that in the past and it solved a similar problem for me. That way you can still restore your previous session. I would be very seriously annoyed if I couldn’t restore my previous session every time.
