Monitor shutting off during reboot

This morning I did a reboot from Garuda to go into XeroLinux and the monitor shut off but the system continued to boot into Garuda.

The day before yesterday I installed Xero behind Garuda, and yesterday I installed ChachyOS and Arch using Calam installer and in all three I did the initial updates, rebooted installed my apps that run under the hood, rebooted into the bios, changed the boot order back to Gariuda, booted and got the Garuda Grub menu without issue. Today I rebooted, waited for the Garuda Grub menu so I could select Xero to finish setting it up and the monitor turned off and the system continued to boot into Gurada. Had to power off the system twice before I could get the system to boot without turning off the monitor, but still not seeing the Garuda Greub menu. There were updates that I did this morning that must have affected Grub. I’ve included the inxi, a run of update-grub, and a link to a copy of my Grub file. Thanks

I should add that all the hardware with the exception of the motherboard is new as of 3 days ago.

Here is thje order of events showing this is a software / update issue, not a multi-boot issue.

installed Garuda
built it up and tweaked it
installed Xero after Garuda
installed the items that run under the hood and tweaked it
rebooted into bios and set Garuda as the default again
booted into Garuda using the Garuda Grub menu
installed CachyOS after Xero
installed the items that run under the hood and tweaked it
rebooted into bios and set Garuda as the default again
booted into Garuda using the Garuda Grub menu
installed Arch using the Calam Arch Installer after CachyOS
installed the items that run under the hood and tweaked it
rebooted into bios and set Garuda as the default again
booted into Garuda using the Garuda Grub menu
next day checked each of those booting into them from the Garuda Grub menu
rebooted back into Garuda using it’s Grub menu
Did that day’s Garuda updates and that is when the above issue started.

Restore a snapshot from before you took the update. If the monitor comes back after restoring the snapshot, most likely a package you are updating has caused the issue (as opposed to a configuration issue).

My money is on this package here:

There are tons of reports that the 545 driver is broken or has major issues. Try downgrading to 535 to test.

sudo downgrade nvidia-dkms nvidia-utils

Thanks I vaguely remember seeing something about 545. Think I’ll take your advice and try the downgrade first, and then if needed the actual rollback. I didn’t do a rollback already just in case someone had something to offer. Thanks again.

EDIT:

Looks like it’s going to be the rollback.

Right, if you have the 32-bit utils you’d have to downgrade that one as well.

sudo downgrade nvidia-dkms nvidia-utils lib32-nvidia-utils

The rollback and reapplying the updates seems to have done the trick. Booted in less than a minute and saw both the hardware list and Garuda Grub menu.

I added that and it still stuck it’s tongue out, LOL.

Nice one, the monitor came back then?

Yes. My thing would of been to do the rollback, but I wanted to post just in case others had run across the issue so if there had been another solution it would be posted. Thanks again, much appreciated.

Hope you and yours holidays are great.
