i have been told that mkinitcpio is obsolete now, and instead dracut is in, so maybe get rid of mkinitcpio, and see if the installation error disappears.

I already have dracut…the problem is the app I’m installing wants mkinitcpio and I’m wondering if there is a workaround or force install.

You best read the Arch wiki for installation, they still recommend mkinitcpio.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Installation_guide

Garuda Linux is not Arch Linux. Mkinitcpio is considered “obsolete” in the sense that the Garuda Linux Team does not recommend using it unless there is something very specific only mkinitcpio can do. It does not ship by default and we do not recommend installing it.

So should I take this as being told penguin-eggs cannot be installed to garuda as is? It’s the only program I’ve found that will create a live iso based on your current one like systemback used to do. Supposed to be a new app too. Is it possible the aur packages are the issue? ie wrong dependencies?

That’s one of the reason I don’t use Garuda.

I’m afraid I’m not familiar with that application. I would suggest you create a Garuda Linux edition via Garuda Linux 🦅 / Tools / buildiso-docker · GitLab instead.

When giving advice to Garuda Linux users on the Garuda Linux forum, I think it might be preferable if you target your answers at Garuda Linux.

i would delete dracut, before i install the app, and then install the app, and then delete mkinitcpio and reinstall dracut. That should fix your issue.

No they don’t. Have you read the page you linked? There is no recommendation for using mkinitcpio anywhere in it. The only mention it gets on the page is where they advise that mkinitcpio.conf needs to be modified and the initramfs rebuilt if using hooks not present in the default config.

mkinitcpio is not obsolete, however dracut is acknowledged as a valid option as well. It’s a matter of user preference.

dracut - ArchWiki

Upon installing linux, you can choose between mkinitcpio and dracut.

By the way, if you pacstrap with dracut, mkinitcpio never even gets installed in the first place.
