Minecraft-launcher doesn't start correctly, only opens a blank window

Hello,
I've recently installed Garuda KDE Dr460nized on my desktop. Naturally the first thing I tried was running the minecraft launcher from the AUR, but after a moment it gets stuck somewhere while it tries to update itself. I had it run for around 2h30min in that state.
When I launch it with sudo, a window opens, but just shows a white screen.

I can still interact with it, and sometimes clicking on things sometimes opens a new window, "Log in to Minecraft", but I don't know what i'm clicking on so it's pretty much unusable. The console output might be of interest, but I don't understand what it means.

I know that the launcher shouldn't need sudo to run properly, because I've been able to make it run with no problem on my laptop.

Here's what I've attempted so far:

  • Reinstalling minecraft-launcher, several times with pacman, pikaur, and yay
  • updating my system and rebooting
  • Running the launcher with the command LC_ALL=C /usr/bin/minecraft-launcher, and uncommenting fr_FR.UTC-8 from locale.gen (fr_FR.UTC-8 was already written at the bottom of the file under "Locales enabled by Calamares) after reading this post (output of locale is below.)

So yeah, that's about it. I ran out of places to look for answers.

have you tried running it WITHOUT sudo? try just running minecraft-launcher from the commandline and see if you get different outputs.

also, you have a reboot pending. that might help as well

Hey, thanks for the reply
I don't know where you read that I had a reboot pending, but I did reboot my system to no avail.

I did manage to get it to work eventually though, so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

it is really, REALLY confusing, and honestly I don't understand any of it, so i'll sum what I did quickly for future reference.

  • minecraft-launcher gave me some GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: 17:55:29.308: g_task_return_error: assertion 'error != NULL' failed error, so I looked into it and ran sudo pacman -S glib2. The launcher booted normally then.
  • KDE Wallet wanted me to register my log in information. If I didn't accept, the launcher would shut down and I'd have to reboot and reinstall glib2 to try again or i'd get the same issues. So I accepted, input a password and I can now play minecraft.

running it with sudo still gives me a white blank screen though.
I have more details if (and I doubt it) anyone wants to look into this weird issue.
So yeah, thanks I guess.

scroll down your garuda-inxi output to see that line, the symbol at the end means a reboot is “pending”

p.s. there is literally no reason to run minecraft as root(ie using sudo). i have been playing for quite a while, never encountered a situation where root/sudo was needed in minecraft.
