Long-time Apple user switching back to Linux after 10 years

Hi,

I live in Sydney, Australia and I am a 33-year old long-time Apple user (10 years) switching back to Linux.

I used Linux heavily in my teenage years and early adulthood (mostly Ubuntu) but switched to using Apple hardware and operating systems after I enrolled in university.

My first laptop which I got in my teens was a MacBook in 2008.

This year I have switched from using an Intel MacBook Pro to using a Linux laptop (Think Penguin) which is running Garuda Linux KDE ‘Dragonised’ edition.

I plan on getting a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra phone to help complete the transition and I also plan on getting a desktop computer from Think Penguin around a year from now.

I was using Firefox heavily on Mac as well which makes things easier somewhat.

Currently on my Garuda Linux laptop I am using Firefox as my main browser and OnlyOffice for viewing word processor documents.

I have an OwnCloud Online account but currently still have an Apple iCloud account I was using before the switch to Linux.

I have an Advanced Diploma of Network Security from TAFE but have been out of the IT field for a long time while I focused on other things.

For educating myself about Linux and computers in general I have ‘Digital Literacy for Dummies’ and ‘Linux All-in-One for Dummies 7th edition’ as well as lots of courses on Udemy.

It’s very nice to meet you all and I hope to continue my journey in Linux from this year onwards.
