Login fail/loop issue

I have been having this bug for about 2 months, tried to worked on it multiple times and i never succeeded to resolve the issue, this is my last step before erasing and reinstalling a new Garuda. I tried to create a new user and it did not change anything.
I posted my issue in KDE FB group and no success. I do my udates daily and been working on an Arch based os since the past 5 years, Garuda for the past year.

When i login, it fails sometimes 2 or 3 times in a row, then i get into my desktop. Sometimes i have to reboot. Sometimes i get into the desktop and then a minute later it crashes and comes back to the login screen. Same login issue for the other user account.

Here is my garuda-inxi:

Thank you.

Please switch from wayland to x11. To do this, log out, confirm x11 and log in again. Maybe it will help.

Also search online for the latest BIOS update.

I already tried the switch to X11 butI did not mention it in my post, i also tried to the same issue applies. I also tried to change the sddm greeting and use the basic KDE login and splash screen, but the issue still persist.
I will look for the BIOS update, thanks.

What happens if you switch to a different tty and run startx?

I can only run a tty (alt F2) when i end up with a black screen, wich happened a couple times too when trying to login, but i don’t know how to open a tty otherwise when the booting is running.
If i find a way to open a tty, i will try tu run the startx command, thanks.

?

Check all “F1-7”
Ctrl + Alt + F1
to
Ctrl + Alt + F7

A post was split to a new topic: In a flash, the page reloads and I’m back at the login screen

You seem to have the same basic issue that leads to this login fail loop.
I never had this bug on an arch based before.

At what moment during the boot do i press these keys?
Thanks!

No, try TTY when login failed on login page.

I could open a tty when login fail this morning and this is the output i got, i took a picture, i hope the infos are readable enough:

Oups, i cannot upload an image, so sorry.

I made a link: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I could not login with tty, i had to reboot.

Could you grab the generated log file so we can get more details on the errors?

Also, I see this popped up in your screenshot too. Were you trying to install Deepin DE or have some Deepin apps, by any chance?
It isn’t setting anything so it seems like a redundant param to have there.

I never tried to install deepin applications, i just do my updates daily.

This is what i get with the command, it says usage is non supported in fish:

╭─philc@philc in ~

fish: Usage de ‘=’ non supporté. Dans fish, veuillez utiliser 'set DEEPIN_GFXMODE '.
DEEPIN_GFXMODE= DEEPIN_GFXMODE=

Or this version without the equal sign:

Hmm, that’s strange…
Those weren’t commands by the way - they’re kernel parameters. To remove them:

  1. Edit your grub with sudo micro /etc/default/grub
  2. In GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, remove the two DEEPIN_GFXMODE= DEEPIN_GFXMODE=.
  3. Run sudo update-grub and reboot

It will most likely not get rid of your issue, but if you ever want to remove them, that’s how.

To get to the heart of the problem, we will need the Xorg log that was generated by startx earlier, as your screenshot is not only hard to read but also not verbose enough. You can see the log location in the screenshot on the log file line.

After verifying, it seems there was already no such line in my grub file, did’nt have to remove it.
Thanks!

I don’t know if this will help, but i collected the journalctl errors and this is what i have. When i rebooted after my system update this morning, there was one fail login attemp and then at the second i could enter my desktop.
I don’t know why, but my neofetch has disapeared yesterday :joy:, did’nt do anything else than my updates.

Error: couldn’t find config: neofetch

My fish borked after that update too, same error as yours, which is weird because I don’t and never have had neofetch installed.
Based on a comment recommending a fix here on the forum, I opened the fish config file and changed the reference of neofetch to fastfetch, but it didn’t make any difference.

Perhaps going more off topic, but fastfetch recently had an update seemingly causing this. Neofetch is a preset I believe. Recently (6 months or so ago) they moved .conf to .jsonc. There was no issue before, but I’m assuming something changed in the last update to make it not find the presets without adding .jsonc at the end. You can add this yourself in fish config to fix it. Also I noticed a year ago, there was a file made in the dr460nized repo that is supposed to replace neofetch preset with dr460nized. That didn’t seem to work on my setup, though. However, testing dr460nized config works without the extension. I’m guessing that it’s still using the .conf format, but I can’t say for sure as I’m not sure where that file is located.
