Loading initial ramdisk issue

Hey there, my boyfriend is having an issue with updating his install, from fresh it boots in fine, however once he updates, it refuses to boot and gets stuck on loading initial ramdisk.

He says that the assistant updater runs and that after that has ran, it wont boot. (I think, trying to guess from his messages.) We think it's something that the assistant updater does that bricks it and makes it unable to boot, nothing we search for seems to have a fix for this issue.

He had his system on auto update, and had been using it fine without issue until it updated recently. (Around 12/12/2022)

Welcome

Never ever use this, you must check the output from garuda-update and sometimes check the pacsave/pacnew files.

This is what he sent me, I'd also like to correct that he wasn't using auto updater, rather the update assistant, I misunderstood him.

He said that installing fresh from USB boots fine, though as soon as he updates it freezes at ramdisk.

They should try giving booting the installer with the free and open source drivers a shot, this kind of issue is commonly caused by the NVIDIA drivers. The setup assistant should then offer to install the NVIDIA drivers once the update is done.

He told me that he installed with the free drivers and it booted fine, though once he ran garuda-update through the setup assistant, it gets stuck on loading ramdisk again.

He did something which now results in this, hangs forever on that too, according to him.

Edit: Seem to have fix'd this be removing "splash" from the boot config.

Edit 2: scratch that, was a bypass. hangs again.
