Oh, gotcha, yeah, I guess that would be an option, doing it outside of the installation. However, in his video, he was referring to the Garuda installer method. thanks.

Oh, okay. No, I don't think the installer gives that option.

I dunno, maybe that could be build in, too. With a pop up going like "Garuda is designed to work on BTRFS, but if you want something else, go nuts".

I'm not really sure but I guess the pacman snapper hook wouldn't be too happy of that, maybe one would also have to disable it.

There's another thing that puzzled me, and it's when he casually switched the system default shell to fish... last time I checked there's a couple systemd units using posix syntax directly (as opposed to calling a script with a #!) and I guess those are likely to fail mysteriously if the system shell is not bash or at least a close relative like zsh.

Haven't tried though, I may well be spewing nonsense.

Yes I wondered about this too!! :joy: there is a reason why we decided for bash as default (login) shell. Fish may be great as shell within terminals, but isn’t as compatible with things on the other side however.

I am using a frankenstein Garuda system using ext4 and the snapper hooks don’t really cause any issues or errors, they don’t work obviously, and also I uninstalled snapper.

I have read this a few different places, but can’t quite figure out what the issue is. I have quite a few systems that I have switched the system shell over to Fish, at first just to see what would happen but I never noticed any issues. I have even changed the system shell to Fish for my root account on a few systems.

I do prefer the login shell to be Fish on systems that don’t use a display manager, but it doesn’t provide any convenience that would be difficult to set up another way if it became problematic at some point.

Still waiting for something to mysteriously break on me…:watch::bomb:

Indeed, I either did not notice back then (very, very likely) or something changed meanwhile: most do ExecStart=/bin/bash ... so they're unaffected.

The only one I found so far that uses sh is /usr/lib/systemd/system/initrd-network.service

ExecStart=/bin/sh -c "for dev in $(ls /sys/class/net) ; do ip link set $dev up   ; done"

but that should also be irrelevant if I understand correctly.

Want a Mac-os desktop for XFCE...

SmallSur

Small Sur is a theme that brings the visual aesthetics of macOS Big Sur to XFCE desktop environment. It is essentially a theme designed to give your Linux desktop a look and feel similar to that of macOS Big Sur.

Looks like I can ask chatgpt why gcc gave me an error while I code using vim.

I know not everyone wants it but I’d like some sort of proper integration like what Windows did with ChatGPT. Imaging it at the OS level and not just in a command line or through the website. Could be awesome for things like word processing and presentations and anything really

I haven't used windows for a while but the only integration between windows and chatgpt that I have heard about is that it's going to be available as NLP. So, realistically it's cortana is gonna have chatgpt integrated into it. Isn't that just an external tool? Why would you need OS to include that? Isn't cortana a part of windows only because windows refuses to ship without its bloat.

The new patches from AMD allow for cpupower to support controlling the ACPI Energy Performance Preference (EPP) value, which is also available for the Intel P-State driver when operating in the Active mode. The cpupower patches also allow configuring the AMD P-State driver's operating mode whether it be active, passive, or in the guided autonomous mode. Lastly is support for adjusting the Turbo Boost feature with AMD P-State, which is enabled by default but for those that may want to check on its status and/or disable it.
