Hi there, i’m trying to instal Linoffice (this is the github link: “GitHub - eylenburg/linoffice: Microsoft Office Launcher for Linux”) but every time that i try i get the “error: failed to connect to rdp server”. The VM is successfully created and i can access to it via browser, but i always get stuck on there. Any help? Before you suggest alternatives: i already tried them but i specifically need office, also i’m a total noob on linux so thank you in advance!
Hard to say for certain, as I don’t use this, but it’s possible the “VM” that was created maybe has a firewall rule that’s preventing RDP from loading natively? I think it runs on a different port via web - so that may explain why RDP won’t connect “natively”.
Have you considered https://winboat.app ? Built on similar principles as linoffice, but within a container instead of a full blown VM. That said, you’d still have to install MS Office on it after you have it up and running.
Is there something you need MS Office for specifically that doesn’t exist as FOSS (such as LibreOffice)? Outlook or Publisher, for example? If not, then I’d suggest FOSS alternatives that just work better on Linux.
Edit: There appears to be an open issue on the repo:
Thank you for the fast response! I already tried the solution to the repo but it does not work, i’m gonna try with winboat to see if i have luck there. I need excel to access some formulas that just don’t work on foss
Hi there, so: i have successfully installed everything via winboat (a little nightmare to get to work but i managed to do it after 4 days) and all works fine! I needed it for an automatic d&d character sheet that for some reason doesn’t get recognized on openoffice and similar.
