Forget the office programs, Vim is the answer for all text editing yes? ;D
Mate, donāt start trolling me with your vim. Emacs will win lol.
Merry Christmas all!
Edlin for the win!
If you are using libreoffice I would suggest watching this video to make libreoffice more compatible with windows office 365. The .odt format is sadly not supported by M$ office and .docx is the industry standard.
thank you
I have found much better compatibility with ONLY office compared to other options, so itās what I use and recommend. I wish libre office was better. It could be fantastic if it would just format .docx better.
I totally agree with this.
Downside is I gotta pay bills and industry standard and all the money come from folks who use Excel. Unfortunately. So maximum compatibility is my top need still. I wish I could use libre though, itās by far the better and more polished of them.
Technically, the open formats are supported (as in: you can open .odt files and save files as .odt). However, the default behavior is to āhijackā these file types and convert them into MS proprietary formats.
You can override the default behavior with some tinkering: Apache OpenOffice Community Forum - [Solved] Microsoft Office 365 prevents saving ODT files - (View topic)
But you need everyone else to do that which is almost impossible.
No, I do not.
Iām using Onlyoffice on Wayland and I donāt see any issue, probably was in the past.
There is another good alternative that is Freeoffice by Softmaker (available on chaotic-aur too) but this yes is problematic with wayland (GUI is too little and no way to increase it), waiting a Freeoffice 2024 edition to solve.
IMHO for text every office alternative or office 365 free is good (but as suggested M$ font must be installed to avoid issue), things became complicated if we spoke about excel and macros, in this case the only solution is Office 365 free (but with some limitation compared to pay 365)
