LBRY Native Update 0.51.2-1

Hello Garuda family. I'm running into a slight hiccup and I could use a little help. I have LBRY installed natively through the terminal as a desktop application. There is a newer version of this application and my current version loves to remind me of this each time I open the application now.

The upgrade provided through the application is a .deb package and as far as I know with my limited knowledge of Arch Linux, that would be incompatible with my system. So I looked for an alternative to installing the upgrade. What I have found so far is that the .AppImage works just fine. However I would like to actually install the upgrade as an application natively if I'm getting that jargon correct.

So I searched for the upgrade and found it in the AUR repository. When I try to install it with yaourt it flags it in my terminal as:

( Unsupported package: Potentially dangerous ! )

So my question is, am I on the right track with yaourt installation or should I approach this a different way? The screenshot of my terminal didn't capture the output above because it flashes but otherwise is displays the rest of the output entirely. Thank you for your help. Have an awesome day.

Thank you for your response. I am able to find the software with yaourt. When I try to install any package from (AUR) it always throws an error. "Running makepkg as root is not allowed as it can cause permanent catastrophic damage to your system."

I'm running into this issue with all AUR software. Please explain in noobie terms lol. For example I didn't understand what you mean by "call mailto:[email protected]"

Thank you again for your help and any additional help.

You should run the installation with the helper as normal user without sudo, eg I use paru so
paru lbry-app-bin
or
paru lbry-desktop-git
And
paru lbry
Will show you all available packages and versions

I got farther with yaourt following your directions and just hitting enter along the way. What does one do when validating with sha512sums fails during the build?

SOLVED I built the git version software is installed. Thanks!

Just FYI in case you are not aware, yaourt has been depracated for quite some time and is no longer recommended for building AUR packages.

If you don’t like paru there are many other AUR helpers that are current and much safer to use.

Some of the many options available are:

paru
yay
trizen
pacaur

There is nothing to stop you from installing all of them to find which AUR helper you prefer.

Thank you so much for the tip. I'll make the switch. Thank each of you as well for your help with this.

Hey there, a quick notice: lbry-desktop-bin was replaced by lbry-app-bin in our repo today. The reason for this is that lbry-desktop-bin was removed from AUR and lbry-app-bin provided a valid alternative. Cheers
