Last update today and "some DKMS modules missing" and unable to install/reinstall

Hi! I updated, rebooted, and start to play but I observed the game are running very bad. I’ve checked and find some problems with DKMS kernel modules and nVidia driver. I’m not able to reinstall the modules nor the nVidia driver. I’ve tried the Garuda Setup manager but “checking for nvidia drivers” would tekes forever without “finding” one.
I’m out of any other “knowing” what should I do, please help!

Hi! Thanks! I’ve tried sudo pacman -S nvidia-dkms but ends on “Error! Installation aborted”
As for or over “pacseek nvidia-dkms search” I don’t know how to do it.
As for updating bios I prefer not too. My Garuda was working around 2 weeks PERFECT! My games were also perfect, everything was perfect until today. Whit my actual “old” bios. I prefer not put my hands inside there :innocent: since I’m a such a IT absolute ignorant :innocent:

it look like its already installed

Relevant software: snapper NetworkManager dracut nvidia-dkms

type pacseek in terminal if its not installed you can install it with the same sudo pacman -S pacseek

but maybe its a rani issue? you can try to install rani-git instead of it.

did you reboot again and checked maybe afterwards its no error anymore.

wait for @nepti =)

@djbashtan
From the topic template:

  • After rebooting, post the FULL output of garuda-inxi in the body of the post (not linked externally, or collapsed with the “hide details” feature)

  • Format terminal output (including your garuda-inxi) as a code block by clicking the preformatted text button (</>) , or put three tildes (~) above and below the text

I’ve fixed it for you.

Just boot last working snapshot.

Sorry but I don’t understand the “code” thing of terminal output. I only know how to paste the privatebin url.

OK, but how I do it myself?

Hi hello!
I have only snapshots from today and one from when I first installed Garuda like 2 weeks ago which I’ve taken manually right before making anything inside the system. I mean it is the only “original” snapshot.
OK! I changed the zen_kernel for LTS one and seems the KDMS issues is gone. Everything seems ok now.
What if I change back to zen now?

i read somewhere that the Lts, mainline and clear Kernel Performs better as the Zen Kernel when you are on the Lts Kernel now you can try to reinstall the Zen Kernel if you want to see if it fix it.

ps. did you try X11 instead of Wayland on the Zen Kernel too? (Logout and below choose X11 Sesion and login again. Actually there is many work on it because kwin splitting and so on also you are on a rolling distro so maybe is fixed in a few days

Hi! Thanks a lot! I did “tried” X11 but for some reason unknown to me, my games runs better on Wayland that’s why I’m staying here. I will try to go back to zen, let’s see what happens. If I was all day messing up with it, so I go forward messing up with it! (edit: but first I want to “test” how things works on LTS :innocent:)

That give informations from your running system to see which stuff the helpers and devs and so on know to troubleshoot it

Or did you mean how to copy and paste it . Simple mark with the mouse and then press ctrl+c and paste with ctrl+v if you also can do three ~~~ above and below it

Just take three “~” above and below the terminal output:

output

You mean I simply copy the log and paste it here?

you can create snapshots yourself with the snapper tool to safe the working stuff before you going mess arround lol. I use other tools to but i do a full backup sometimes if im happy with my running systen otherwise use a VM to get qrazy messing lol

just a other information for you

A friend had issues with the GPU on his system also with Winblows and he was thinking his GPU is going dead but after we both searching for solutions we found out that he have to update it with the Nvidia update tool for the display ID to get it back working on his winblows and i helped him to install Garuda KDE Dragonized and it worked since the update perfectly =)

he have near same model but without the ti . he left me his older gtx but this dont want work on my mainboard. Im on the technican support with Asus to figure out my problem.

Just as information for you or others keep in mind this tool works only with windows and yes also with your GPU too. The website says diffrent cards but we did it too with the RTX 3080 =)

I never had any “windblow” problems with my card. Not in Windows (in 3 years of using it playing games “hard”) not in Garuda so far in 2 weeks of playing games here. Now I don’t use Windows but only for editing my videos and photos since for now I don’t know how to do it on Linux. I hope keep this way (without problems I mean :innocent:). Thanks for info anyway! What would be really helpful would be if someone will tell me how to change the “discrete” mode to “performance”, because sometimes while gaming it’s appear like nvidia fall and only the integrated works. It’s like 1-5sec to 10 sec of nvidia gpu stopping according the OSD. Sometimes more than that.

It is not helpful to post a screenshot of rani - what we need are logs. The update process is displayed in the terminal and it is always useful to keep an eye on this or scroll up after the update to check for possible error messages.

Please post a current garuda-inxi and the output of:

dkms status

Please stick to the topic template:

  • ONE issue per topic.

Thanks.

Now I have the LTS kernel and everything seems to be ok! So far no issue’s shown!

Today (2025.04.05) I’ve tried to reinstall Zen Kernel back, BUT, when I enable it for install in Rani, right away appears the “nVidia” and “DKMS modules missing” warning message.

When you install the `linux-zen kernel, the dkms modules are also rebuilt - have you rebooted afterwards?

Reboot your system and then:

and the output of:

mhwd-kernel -li
