Keyboard mode?

I’ve been having an occasional issue when I’m playing FFXIV, it has nothing to do with the game, just when it becomes really hectic and I’m going through buttons, I occasionally get stuck in some sort of keyboard mode, I’m not sure the term to search for is, it would have some sort of activation based on ctrl, alt, or shift since those are the buttons I have mapped for special buttons in game. After it gets hectic I’ll suddenly be stuck unable to use a variety of buttons in game as something else is capturing them, and my mouse loses the ability to interact with windows.

After I get stuck in this mode, T opens a terminal, E opens Thunar (my file explorer), and I think D or F opened Firefox, neither key was usable in game after, and the only way I’ve found to regain control of my system how I’m used to it is to swap to a tty, then swap back.

Check if your keyboard has a “lock” feature for the meta/super/“Windows” key. Often it can be toggled on and off with Fn+Meta, or by holding down this or that key while you press the meta key.

This behavior suggests you have the meta lock enabled, as those are the bindings for opening these applications (Meta+T, and so on).

Once you figure out how to activate the meta lock, you may find it handy to lock it in the “off” position while gaming (so the meta key does not do anything).

I do keep my windows key locked as I never have reason to use it, I find this rather perplexing as it seems to happen rather randomly, I will admit that I am using a mouse that isn’t ‘supported’ in linux, the Red Dragon m901 perdition, however, the mouses hotkeys are saved to a memory chip in the mouse itself, so it has the keys I setup on windows saved to it, which should just be left ctrl, left alt. and left shift for my side buttons, and the minus key (-) so I can get to as many buttons as possible. It appears to occur when I’m rapidly switching from the side buttons, ctrl, alt, or shift, along with some combination of W,A,S,D and the numbers 1-5, as that is my setup in game.
