Keyboard Issue

I am having a bit of trouble with my keyboard. I tried to create a udev rule to rename my network interface, following a few guides i found to create the rule. after rebooting i found that my keyboard no longer worked. I booted into rescue mode and deleted the rule. but now my keyboard only works after waiting about 30 seconds after boot. All my usb devices seem to work, and after 30 seconds they seem to reset. Then my keyboard will start working.

What specifically did you do? If you can link to the guide you followed that may be informative.

What specifically did you delete?

Check if there are any error messages related to udev or your keyboard in the system logs. For example, try running journalctl -b and look for any lines containing “udev” or “keyboard”.

Let’s open the udev rules file related to network interfaces using a text editor with administrative privileges. The file is named 70-persistent-net.rules and is found in the /etc/udev/rules.d/ directory. If there is no such file, we can create one ourselves:

$ sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

After opening the 70-persistent-net.rules file, locate the line corresponding to the network interface we want to rename, and modify the NAME parameter with the new desired name:

# Modify ATTR{address} with MAC of the network interface and NAME paramter with the new desired name.

SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="02:42:ac:11:00:02", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="neweth0"
~~~
Once i started having the problem i deleted the file.
There seems to be no errors relating to the keyboard in the journal, however i am not quite sure what im looking for so i may have overlooked it.
You could try using grep to search for a pattern. For example, you could see if these results offer up any clues:
journalctl -b | grep keyboard
journalctl -b | grep usb
journalctl -b | grep error
Go ahead and paste some journal output here into the thread.
A grep of keyboard returned nothing.
here is a grep of usb
Hmm, that is surprising because the word appears many times in the journal output you posted.
Here, your “Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600,” is detected successfully:
Here, there are repeated errors related to USB device descriptor reads:
This appears to be a separate device though (not the keyboard).
Here, there are more errors related to USB device enumeration:
I’m not sure what that device is. Any ideas?
If this started happening after you created the udev rule, and deleting the udev rule did not resolve it, perhaps udev needs to be manually reloaded.
sudo udevadm control --reload
Another thing you could try would be restarting the systemd-udevd service and see if it complains about anything.
It may be worth rebuilding your initramfs images to ensure you have the right assortment of modules for the current hardware configuration.
sudo dracut-rebuild
Something else worth testing would be changing the USB device configuration at boot time and see if it makes any difference. For example, try plugging the keyboard into another USB slot, or try booting with the keyboard plugged in but no other USB devices attached.
I did your recommendations and no errors were returned, and the problem still remains.
I believe the usb device is the qi charging mouse pad that i have.
I have also noticed that discord seems to have problems connecting within the first 5 seconds or so on boot, then it connects fine.
I have also restored a earlier snapshot and the problem persists though it.
Though changing usb ports and many restarts the problem seems to have fixed itself.
Discord still seems to not be able to connect to the network on it first attempt.
but whether this is a problem with my network or a problem with discord is still unknown. However it is a minor inconvenience, and its something that i can ignore.
Thanks for the help.
