Key xxxxx could not ne looked up remotely

Hello. Trying to update my system but fails with key importing. I've searched around here and found multiple posts that all point to the tutorial page specifically for this issue. I've followed the tutorial (as you'll see below). I've completed everything including fully refreshing the key ring. This is what happens now when I start from the beginning. Note garuda-inxi is not installed on my system and I cannot install it due to this keyring issue. Hopefully I have formatted my konsole correctly.

From first step in the tutorial:
sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring chaotic-keyring

:: Import PGP key 0706B90D37D9B881, "Chaotic-AUR Wild Bear Node <wildbear.node@chaotic.cx>"? [Y/n]
error: key "0706B90D37D9B881" could not be looked up remotely
error: required key missing from keyring
error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Also make sure your system clock is correct!
  • DONE

Of course, it's also possible that the package file actually is corrupt. Remove it from /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ so pacman will download it again.

sudo rm /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*.part DONE

sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring chaotic-keyring
Same prob as above with Wild Bear....

sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys
Took ages, and lots of red ERROR: Could not update key: xxxxxxxxxxx

sudo pacman-key --refresh-keys --keyserver hkps://keyserver.ubuntu.com
Lots of error retrieving xxxxxxxxxxxx messages but only a few in Red! Also took ages.
Also got:

Anyhoo, let's try again:

Hi there, welcome to the community.
First try garuda-update command or update command in terminal, or command by @ TNE. If that doesn’t work

You can post output of inxi -Faz instead.

Also, when did you updated your pc last time?

update isn’t installed and I can’t install it without fixing the keyring.

Try this:

sudo bash -c ". <(wget -qO- https://gitlab.com/garuda-linux/themes-and-settings/settings/garuda-common-settings/-/snippets/2147440/raw/main/remote-update)"

I haven't updated in quite a few months :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Filtering in the forum by ā€œ5.12.11-zen1-1-zenā€, all posts are from June 2021
Apart from the remote fix, it will be a challenging update :astonished:

Cheers. That seems to have made a lot of changes but ultimately failed with this:

Do you want to delete it? [Y/n]

let me know if you want more of the multi-page output.

Wow, maybe try again
sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring chaotic-keyring

Yay, that worked. I'll try doing the system update now. (as it might take a while I thought you'd enjoy sharing some good news, Thx)

Bad new I’m afraid.
There were many messages like this:

:: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/librewolf-extension-plasma-integration-1.8.1-2-any.pkg.tar.zst is corrupted (invalid or
corrupted package (PGP signature)).
Do you want to delete it? [Y/n]

PGP signature)).
Do you want to delete it? [Y/n]

So i answer Yes to each one but ultimately it failed with this unhelpful message (no package name):

error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Thanks for helping me with this. I’ll post

the entire log

if you can point me to say how you want it. Don’t think you want cut 'n paste do you?

Strange. I can only think to try with thegaruda-update package.
I would suggest:

sudo pacman -S garuda-update
garuda-update

Yay that seems to have worked!
There were a few warning messages but untimately it has finished with:

System updated! 🐧

I guess I need to reboot now, just to be sure.

Many Thanks Filo for you helpful support. I'm unsure which post to mark as the solution - I guess it's a combination of all the steps together? Which do you suggest?

Yes, sure, reboot and let's cross fingers
The credit in the end goes to @TNE who created these fantastic scripts.

Ehh. Well if I wanted to be pedantic I’d point out that

  1. pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring chaotic-keyring was already executed by Key xxxxx could not ne looked up remotely - #5 by filo
  2. garuda-update was already installed and ran by the same command
  3. The update remote fix command was supposed to execute the same command, but shorter, but your system didn’t have garuda-update installed yet so that would never work.

So in the end it’s mostly that script, combined with running the update command a couple of times to delete any corrupt packages that just happened to exist. So I’d suggest marking #5 as the answer

Cheers Filo.
Reboot done and everything seems to be working fine, perhaps even a little faster!

Thanks for hanging in there with me.

You're welcome, and what's more, welcome to the forum!!!
