I’m new to Linux and tried installing Garuda using Ventoy. Here’s what I did:
Launched the installer from the live USB.
Installed to an external SSD with these partitions:
500 MB /boot/EFI with boot flag
60 GB / (root) with root flag
100 GB exFAT for data
the rest in /
At boot, I got a menu, selected Garuda… and got a kernel panic with a QR code.
I reinstalled using the “wipe data” option to use the default setup, but I had the exact same issue.
I’m completely new and wondering if this is a partitioning problem, a UEFI/BIOS issue, or something else. I’d love to keep Garuda for its style, but I just want it to boot properly.
A picture of this supposed QR code and kernel panic output
garuda-inxi output as advised in the post template
In your submission. Our ability to magically divine the cause for your issue is sadly on cooldown, so we will need all the information you can get for us.
I do ask that you please provide everything I’ve asked for. We can’t magically divine what the issue might be without everything:
I’m sure you can figure out an image sharing service like imgur
We don’t allow new users to upload images to prevent spam against this discourse instance, sorry about that.
Also what options did you use installing Garuda? Did you select grub2, the open source or nvidia option? Furthermore did you select a drive to install to, or a drive partition, from among more partitions on the same drive? Also is your bios updated to the latest version. Are you in UEFI boot mode in the bios. Is secure boot enabled?
We will need this kind of information to zero in on the problem you are having
Firstly the garuda-inxi please! (open terminal type garuda-inxi and copy and past the output in your post. (Please do not forget to correctly format your post by pressing the top left menu button beside the capital A of the editor you are using right now. )
I’m going to lock this thread now, rather than waiting the usual 2 weeks. The user hasn’t revisited the forum since they opened it, so I think we can safely assume they’ve returned to Windows.
