KDE just crashes out of nowhere

Hi, a new Garuda user here. Trying to switch from MacOs and use Garuda as my daily driver for development purposes.

I have the KDE setup with the Latte dock. No further modifications made. Using it for several days now, but from time to time KDE just crashes out of nowhere, presenting a black screen followed by the default login screen. I looked at the logs below but not sure where to start.

Btw within the last ~20 years it's my third attempt to fully switch to Linux for work. I really like how Garuda is setup and hope I'll be able to make it work... but KDE just froze now while working in Android Studio. trying to figure out what's going on. Anyway thanks for the great work you are doing. :+1:

p.s. this is a dual boot setup having Windows and Garuda on seperate SSDs, and each drive having it's own EFI partition. Using Refind as the boot manager.

Welcome

  1. Change from Latte Dock to garuda-dr460nized-next, Latte Dock is end of life. Use forum search
  2. Try other kernel if the problem exist.

Thanks @SGS . I saw in the topic Kwin_x11 crashing repeatedly that the OP tried these steps without luck, but anyway the problem may be specific to my setup so I'll test that as well and monitor the progress. Also there's a new KDE version on the doorstep so maybe it'll get resolved

To clarify, if this is adopted, Latte Dock is guaranteed to stop working.
As a rolling distribution, this happens automatically. You should therefore definitely switch beforehand.

Read!

BTW, no need to ping me with @, thanks

Welcome to the Forum and Welcome back to Linux!
Hopefully for good now.

Apart from installing garuda-dr460nized-next which will most probably not fix your issues, you could wait a day or 2 for Plasma 5.27 and see if the problem occurs still.
There are also threads, maybe one pinned, about how to troubleshoot these types of issues. Keep in mind in some situations the culprit is hardware-related.

Also since you are new with Garuda, when you perform a system update, plz use garuda-update as the command of choice. It is very powerful to manage smoothly every aspect of a system update.
