KDE 6 repository / testing

Maybe just you and me

But I am also doing it to improve the toolchain builders. I suspect that it is better to wait until code freeze to really start testing it as a user.

Dr460nized.

I was supposed to start long ago, I am late to the party but should join within 2 weeks probably. KDE-git is a must for all my tests, just life is in the way a lot recently.

And Iā€™ll check that then.

I mean the bar

Terminal must be konsole.
Reboot must be restart.

Itā€™s not easy for an old man like me to remember all the different words for the same thing :innocent:

Wait:
i3status
waybar
dock
there are more, I am sure

Correct for both.

Top Panel. loll
With Plasma instead of Latte-Dock, the panel at the top is called Top Panel and the ā€œpanelā€ at the bottom is called ā€œPanelā€ by KDE, everything is a Panel in KDE. To make things worse for your memory, with Plasma 6 they are renaming the dock to call it ā€œDockā€. A bottom ā€œPanelā€ will still be available, but the floating option of it will be called ā€œDockā€.

How confusing.

They can call it all they wantā€¦ my brain calls it ā€œI miss latte-dockā€ !

Not only you do! :face_holding_back_tears:

I liked latte for how good it looked but it used to burn my laptop :cold_sweat:

But itā€™s floating not docked. Screams in shock and horror. :scream: :scream: :scream:

A lot of dock grows in our garden.

SDDM show standard wallpaper fixed and reboot, fine.

file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.desktopcontainment/contents/ui/main.qml:291:9: KQuickControlsAddons.EventGenerator is not a type

fixed after update and reboot.

Window decoration plastik was removed for breeze, and close button works now.

Is it possible things changed since your original post, @dr460nf1r3 ?

I try to install from fresh and I get this:

After last update, I got standard log in page again, but US upper left, can not change it to de, and password failed (back to log in).
Some little red text, canā€™t read with my weak eyes

I can see in TTY that my password fit, log in work.
But I canā€™t boot system.

chroot work, so I can update later the system and log in again

But the fun fact is reduced immensely.

I update the system via chroot some days ago, got german login standard page, but login failed.
Yesterday next update, login page change to US, only US as option in the selection menu.

Sorry

I overwrote the partition with Hyprland today as I am not experienced enough to solve this kind of problem. :frowning:

the kirigami-addons5 issue is kinda nasty.
there is a kde git repo kirigami-addons5 that fixes these conflicts, but first must be installed. (or the arch one removed first)

there has been some issues here and there, because upstream is not yet on ā€œfreeze modeā€ (should happen at first alpha release, i think) : Schedules/Plasma 6 - KDE Community Wiki

I have been fixing things but sometimes its necessary to ā€œreinstall the same packageā€. Sorry for this, I havenā€™t communicated it here. Will do in the future!

Iā€™m wondering if Iā€™ll need the -git version on a clean install with kde-unstable repo & testing uncommented in pacman.conf from the beginning?

humā€¦ If I understood your question correctly, arch kde-unstable and testing are not needed (arch kde-unstable has kf6 from git though currently, I think)

Its just an issue with kirigami-addons5 right now.

But I do the disclaimer againā€¦ things are pretty unstable right now, building/packaging wise, because development is going on in full swing and no API is frozen yet. (the desktop itself seems pretty stable, as in havenā€™t seen crashes recently)

IIRC, kde-unstable itself is listed among Archā€™s Testing repos, and Iā€™ll need them enabled but with kde-unstable repo placed above them in pacman.conf.

The last time I ran unstable was with GNOME and IIRC testing repos needed enabling. But itā€™s been a few years and @ 71 I donā€™t mind admitting my mindā€™s not as sharp as it once wasā€“if it ever was.

Thanks alex.

EDIT: @alexjp , from Arch Testing subforumā€¦

V1del is a forum moderator.

Itā€™s also in the wiki. I guess 71 ainā€™t too shabby.

This thread is about a different repo altogether, see post #1:

During the last weeks, we have been working on building KDE 6 and a new repo called chaotic-aur-kde . @alexjp did most of the work by bringing up the needed PKGBUILDs to build via our infra.

The instructions you are reading on the Arch forums are different because they are using different repos than the one that this thread is about.
