(Edit: I split off not related issues into another thread as per moderator request. For the rest, please find my hardware and system info in the second reply below. Thanks!)
I just installed Dragonized on a Dell XPS 15 laptop. I am mostly using it connected to a Thunderbolt dock (WD19), whcih has 2 external 4k monitors. When the laptop is connected to the dock, I only use the external monitors and the laptop lid is closed. I have several issues with this setup, which I hope someone can help me with...
Issue #1:
I am unable to use the 2 external monitors at their native resolution of 3840x2160. There is a lot of flicker and only one of the monitors actually turns on, the other is blank. I had to reduce the resolution of both external displays to 2560x1440, in order for them to be driven by the OS without problems. I think that the issue is one of bandwidth, but I know that my USB-C dock has 4 PCIe lanes and the exact same setup worked without flicker with native resolution under Windows. So hardware-wise it is possible to drive 2x 4k displays through the USB-C cable without it impacting wireless KB/mouse and/or wired Ethernet, which are also connected to the WD19 dock. When I check with lspci
, I get that the link capability is
LnkCap: Port #3, Speed 8GT/s, Width x4,... LnkSta: Speed 2.5GT/s (downgraded), Width x4 (ok)
Is there a way to increase the PCIe throughput?
One more thing about this issue - I know it is not Gardua Linux specific. I have tried it with Ubuntu as well, with the same result. I just haven't asked for help before and now that I am happy with Gardua, I came to this forum for help.
Issue #2:
This is the major annoyance which prompted me to ask for help. When I logout of Plasma Desktop (when using only the external monitors) the displays turn black/off and the laptop display turns on. even though the laptop lid is closed! There is no recovery from that, I cannot switch back to the external screens. I have to open the laptop lid and reboot in order to switch to the external displays again. I am also stumped as to how to debug this issue... Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for all your help!

I will google some more around the Internet on the Latte dock issue (#4 ) and start a new topic on that, if I do not find anything applicable. Thanks!
I fixed the long inxi output with ~~~

Could you please edit the OP to split issues 2-4 off to their own threads and then re-name this thread? Having a single "megathread" for personal support is not great for other people to read or refer to in the future.
