Issue with my usb audio/headset

I'm having an issue with my usb audio/headset going silent and having to switch outputs to get audio back. When this happens, videos in discord and on my web browser won't play. For reference, I have a Sennheiser GSP 670 headset.

Hi there, welcome to the forum!
Let me preface the following by saying that I have no experience in this topic...
Your description makes me think of a USB power saving problem.
Giving a (very quick) read at this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_management#USB_autosuspend
And this:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v4.16/driver-api/usb/power-management.html
I would suggest trying the kernel boot parameter:

usbcore.autosuspend=-1

Alright, I'll give it a try and report back!

Unfortunately, this did not fix the issue. It does seem to have had an effect on how often it happens. (going from random 1-5 minutes to 10-15 minutes)

  1. Create a text file named:

snd_hda_intel.conf

  1. Insert this line:

options snd_hda_intel power_save=0

  1. Save it in:

/etc/modprobe.d

Reboot: This should keep your Intel audio alive. Cross your fingerrs. :crossed_fingers:

Thank you! I will try this and report back.

Unfortunately, this did not work. I still have to switch between chat and game outputs to bring audio back.

When audio dies, can you check to see if there's an error added to dmesg?

Sure, I'll do that as soon as it happens next.

I see alot of this, but it may be related to corectrl and that the full gamut of features for the RX 7900XTX has not been exposed and implemented yet.

Aside from the problem being sporadic, dmesg shows nothing new after an hour of monitoring.

Just a quick update.

There were some updates for AMDGPU and PowerDevil today, and since those updates, the problem seems to have resolved itself. It's been four hours and no sound input/output issue. Thank you to everyone who gave advice!

Nevermind, it's still happening. It's just much more predictable now.

Have you tried using other USB ports? Literally grasping at straws here.

Great Question, and yes I have tried that. I've purchased a new headset just in case it's only specific to the Sennheiser GSP670.

Just picked up an Audeze Maxwell headset and it looks like the issue only affects the previous Sennheiser GSP670 for whatever reason. Now I just need to figure out how to setup Dolby Atmos in Linux>
