I wasn’t sure where to put this, so I’ll just post it here. Hope it’s the right place to share an experience/advice.
I recently had to re-install Garuda and found myself in a pickle when, even though the installation completed without issue, the PC always inevitably booted straight to windows.
I tried to manually choose which partition to boot, and I could pick the one with Garuda in it and it booted without problem, so for a while I was stuck on what exactly was going on. Trying to repair or update grub didn’t change anything.
Eventually I went into BIOS settings and noticed that, on top of picking which order the PC would boot (USB Boot, HD, etc) it also had an option for which order to boot the HDs. I set the one that had the Garuda partition as the first to boot, and that fixed. Now the PC always goes to boot the Garuda-containing-HD first, finds grub and from there I can go to any installed OS.
So, if you find yourself dual booting and it looks like your PC doesn’t find your Garuda (or other OS) and everything else didn’t work, try checking out your BIOS settings and look for a “boot priority” option for your hard drives.
