I3 Wonky Conky Behaviour: two of the Same?

Hi Garuda maintainers,

A follow up to my post regarding transparency in conky, I did a bit more digging and believe the Garuda i3 default install runs two of the same conkys.

The default i3 config file starts up two conkys.

exec --no-startup-id conky
exec --no-startup-id conky -c ~/.config/conky/conky-shcts

The first one runs a "top" as conky must be configured to look for "conky.conf" in

~/.config/conky/conky.conf

While diagnosing conky, I noticed the following

ps -ef | grep conky
jsamuel 678061 1 0 17:36 ? 00:00:00 conky -c /home/jsamuel/.config/conky/conky-shcts
jsamuel 678386 1 1 17:36 ? 00:00:01 conky --daemonize --pause=1
jsamuel 679482 679449 0 17:37 pts/0 00:00:00 grep conky

Note that my i3 config, I have commented out the first conky exec

#exec --no-startup-id conky
exec --no-startup-id conky -c ~/.config/conky/conky-shcts

But I still get the nice Conky "Top" on my left, and the i3 shortcuts on the right as something other than i3 config starts a "default" conky when i3 starts.

So with the i3 default setup, you end up running two conky "tops", they probably fit so nicely on top of each other you would not notice..

Perhaps the maintainers can confirm this, but it would probably best to remove whatever calls

conky --daemonize --pause=1

And leave conky startup to i3 config file so that users can add or remove as many conkys as they wish via i3 config.

Thanks for your attention in this matter. I hope it helps. My inxi is below.

Ok

On my PC conky start only if I set

exec --no-startup-id conky

No magic conky autostart.

Your system work here until I reboot, then I have only the shortcuts but not my conky on the left. After using ‘conky’ in the terminal I got “my” conky back.

Did you install something else?

With a non-transparent background, everything is fine on the ISO, so I’ll leave it that way.

If the end user wants something different, he has to set it up himself.

Which is usually necessary anyway because of the different hardware conditions.

Thanks for checking - apologies for sending you down my rabbit holes

Figured it out. I was messing with conky and set the "window_type" to "desktop", I think conky put an autostart in my desktop config for that reason. Removed the offending file and its gone.
