vlc in Arch repo's is 3.0.17.4-3. (sudo pacman -S vlc) Where did you install this from?

After upgrading to version 3.0.17.0-3 as suggested by Gavin, if the error persists, try to find something at VLC’s gitlab VLC doesn't start on Fedora 35 (#26545) · Issues · VideoLAN / VLC · GitLab

There are a few errors with the exact same version you are using.

The link above matches with some other links I found related to this problem on the snap version.
If this is confirmed, you should definitely try the package in the Arch repo.

If you are still having problems with VLC, I would highly suggest installing smplayer. Smplayer has a very plain Jane interface, but it is a very advanced and configurable player. The appearance can be improved greatly by installing the smplayer themes/skins.
