Hello community,
As I was trying to install the newest version of Garuda Linux GNOME on my hp 255 G10, I encountered an error. The same happened when I tried to install the newest dra46onized KDE edition. By creating the USB with etcher, it does not show up on the boot menu. Magically, it worked by using an older version of Garuda Linux. By creating it with Ventoy, it drops me to the debug shell. By leaving the grub entry as it was, it showed me that md5sum was not found. Though, by testing it manually, the command was found. Then I set checksum to “n” so it does not try to do something with checksums. Then, it said “could not mount /dev/loop0”. Could you help me please?
Welcome
Would you please define exactly what older and latest version mean?
The full ISO name would be more helpful.
Also, the garuda-inxi, from the live ISO (nobody can do anything with hp255 G10 )
Where did you set checksum to “n”?
We should only talk about either GNOME or KDE here but not mix the two.
By older version I mean version 231027 from sourceforge and by newer version I mean the newest version from sour ceforge. By HP 255 G10 I mean my laptop model, because it worked fine on my second laptop. I set checksum=n in the grub menu entry - boot with open source drivers in the first line.
Newer images don’t work with Ventoy…you would need to write the image directly to a jumpdrive for install…or use the older 24xxxx iso available from the main garudalinux website and then install updates.
The problem is that the device does not show up in my boot menu at all
What device are you using and what chipset does it use? Have you plugged it into the laptop that is working and checked if it shows in lsusb? If it doesn’t then the device is the issue.
I tried all of my 5 usbs, they show up on my os, I use an HP 255 G10 with an AMD Ryzen 5 7530u and Radeon graphics
Please.
- After rebooting, post the FULL output of
garuda-inxi
in the body of the post (not linked externally, or collapsed with the “hide details” feature)
- Format terminal output (including your
garuda-inxi

Without garuda-inxi this request will be moved to 412 Precondition Failed
Okay will add it at German evening today
That is a lot older–more than one year old! Try the 240428 ISO instead.
If you want to use Ventoy, be sure your Ventoy stick is up to date. https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_start.html
