I had messed up the bios install

I want to try Garuda, specifically Mokka. I’ve tried multiple ways to write to the iso, and two different USB sticks that have successfully installed Linux. I’ve tried multiple usb ports. When I boot with a Garuda iso, selecting the USB to boot with, and it freezes on the Logo screen (POST screen?).

I have used Fedora Media Writer and ISO Image Writer in Linux, and Rufus in Windows. All have the same result. I’ve downloaded Mokka from different sources. torrent, direct, and through sourceforge. Same result. I’ve redownloaded it. I have not tried Dragonized, but I do not want to use it.

I have tried Ventoy as well. With Ventoy, I can boot, and then start booting the iso. I’ve used both “normal” and grub. in both ways, it gives a fatal error and crashes. Specifically, it says:

[OK] Reached target Remote File Systems
Starting dracut pre-mount hook…
6.930346 dracut: FATAL: one or more files are corupted. See /tmp/checksum.log for details
6.930599 dracut: Refusing to continue
_

I’m at a loss, hope you can help.
Thanks,
Gwen
I have tried both Mokka and Dragonized in this manner.

install with ventoy using grub 2

I’ve done this, I get the same dracut fatal error and computer shutdown as with normal mode.

What is the exact filename of the ISO you are using?

Have you verified the checksum? Download the SHA256 file that corresponds with the ISO you are trying to install and run sha256sum -c against it. Make sure it is in the same directory as the ISO.

sha256sum -c /path/to/checksum_file

Check that your Ventoy stick is up to date. You can update it with the instructions here, under “Update Ventoy”: Get start . Ventoy

Try flashing the ISO with a basic command line utility like cat or cp as described here: USB flash installation medium - ArchWiki. Note you need to switch to a root shell first, for example by running sudo fish.

Hi

do you want install it on a own nvme or sda?

i had issues with a installed Fedora too but its a loger while ago.

Do you have a amd igpu and nvidia card?

You can try if your on a Desktop Pc to remove the Nvidia card and only let one Harddrive in for installing it on the Harddrive.

i did install mokka with ventoy grub2 too and created with kde iso imagewriter worked too.

I hadn’t verified the checksum but did so per yoru instructions and the iso is okay. I have also now tried flashing the iso with both cat and cp, and both result in the same failure to boot as using any image writer does.

And ventoy results in a crash. I’m going to try making a ventoy in windows instead of Fedora. Though rufus already didn’t work.

What is the exact filename of the ISO you are using?

Thank you for your help, everyone, it’s solved!

In my case, I did something stupid to try and fix it. I used the software that came with my gigabyte board to update everything including the bios, and it shut down instead of restarting on install. That led to the computer refusing to start up at all, just a black screen. Fans would go on strong, then after a few seconds slow down but stay on.
Research confirmed what I suspected, that I had messed up the bios install. So this time I read up on how to fix it and how to properly do a Q-flash. I was able to do so, and the board started up but I still had the garuda usb startup problem. Then I thought to turn off secure boot. AFAIK it was off to begin with. I turned it off, started with ventoy in bios, and it worked. I’m logged into Garuda right now.

I helped someone yesterday with this issue on a gigabyte board. it seems CSM has to be toggled or you just get a black screen also for anyone else dont have a bios PWD set before upgrading the bios 9 times out of 10 it wont take the password you set.
