Hyprland crashes whenever a program is opened via after a game has been opened

Whenever I open my terminal via a hotkey (super+enter) after opening a game Hyprland crashes. Doing so from the application launcher seems fine and I haven’t run into any other issues but if I trigger this a crash will occur.

(additionally it’s not the cachy kernel because it’s been having the same issue on zen)

nvm it will still crash from the launcher

If you’re using terminal so you can see the logs to find out the problem

Also , is it happening that specific game or all games ?

It is not a specific game. It is happening across both native and proton’d games, although all of them have been launched from steam.

where are the logs located (I forgot)

okay, let’s break down in steps

  1. do you have hyprland or hyprland-git ,if git one so install hyprland instead of it
  2. try different kernels ,(yeah I knowyou have tried zen and cachy) probably LTS , mainline …etc (My fav one nitrous )
  3. try different proton version like proton-ge custom build or any other
  4. I can see that you have update your PC just yesterday , you can use snapshot and go back and see if this was also happening in snapshot or not , might also be able to find the problem creating creating package because of which it started happening

That’s what I can suggest :slightly_smiling_face:

your terminal …

Start games from terminal, if possible. Check for crash errors.
Check htop, cpu, temp … .
Also use alias → jctl in terminal

oh I assumed there were crash logfiles somewhere my bad?

  1. I have the git version and will try the non git version
  2. okay I shall try the others
  3. proton version won’t change anything as the crash is happening on both proton’d and native games
  4. it was prior to the update yeah

still happens on the non-git version, I’ll try the other kernels later

I’mma reinstall the os, see if that fixes my issue seeing as it didn’t happen on my last install
