Garuda (2.6.12-1):

Just started with Garuda which works somewhat differently that I am used to. I tried pacman -S

pacman -S gwenview
resolving dependencies...
:: There are 2 providers available for phonon-qt5-backend:
:: Repository extra
phonon-qt5-gstreamer 2) phonon-qt5-vlc

But no gwenview. I found a link to it Arch Linux - gwenview 22.12.0-1 (x86_64) that tells me it's in the extra repository. What should be my next move?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there, welcome to the community!

I reformatted your post.

Regarding gwenview

Actually, phonon-qt5 is a dependency of gwenview among other dependencies.

Now, phonon-qt5 itself has a dependency, phonon-qt5-backend , which is provided either by phonon-qt5-vlc and phonon-qt5-gstreamer

Check it out here
https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/phonon-qt5/

So, you have choice to install either of them to satisfy dependency of gwenview.

In short, if you don’t know what to do, just press enter and choose default one

That is,

sudo pacman -Syu gwenview

Enter, type password, enter, press enter again to say choose default, press y and enter and you should be good to go.

I hope this resolves your issue!

And Happy New Year and Welcome to forums !!

Thanks for the speedy response. Everything went fine until…

error: Partition /var/cache too full: 76557 blocks needed, 20011 blocks free
error: failed to commit transaction (not enough free disk space)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

I suspect I shouldn’t delete everything under /var/cache.

Your root partition is almost full.
Try freeing up some space.

Btw, I am surprised what were you doing that filled 100GiB Root Partition

60 years of family and travel photos. Btw, do I have to garuda-inxi on every new topic or is it stored centrally? Hint...I want to start a new topic.

It is best to post a new one for each issue. The information in it changes regularly enough that this is the only thing that makes sense.

Plus the easier it is to find and read, the more likely people will read through it searching for clues. If people have to hunt and search to find basic information, they are more likely to not bother.

should at minimum create a seperate partition for them and avoid touching the root folder other than to move mounts.

I had them on a separate drive and copied them without thinking. Problem solved. Thank you for you assistance.
