Hi, how to get rid of that app? and why it is forced ?
i have removed all /usr/share/applications/ octopi files but that didn’t do much
octopi still starts along with OS, have nothing in autostart
obraz

Ya, not sure myself why all of a sudden the notifier from Octopi after an update wanted to do that.
I don’t have it on my system now, but it should be
octopi-notifier-framework and/or octopi-notifier-qt . Both are listed as optional dependencies.

Lately I’ve been removing Octopi from my systems because it is just causing annoyances like this and I haven’t been using it lately at all anyways. Also, it uses Qt5 / knotifications5 for notifications still…

This is just a widget → edit mode + delete.

In version “0.16.0-1” of octopi the octopi-notifier is integrated.

Edit: Edit mode → System tray → Configure → Entries → octopi-notifier → Allways hidden.

Edit 2 : If you want to get rid of this completely, delete: /etc/xdg/autostart/octopi-notifier.desktop.

Well, that certainly explains it. Didn’t think it would forcibly place a widget of all things.
Edit: or at least a persistent system tray icon

So can i completely and safely remove octopi from my system?

If you don’t need octopi, just uninstall it.

Wanna bet ten donuts to one he keeps removing stuff 'til he breaks his system? :grimacing:

If Octopi is removed would you say Pacman, Yay & Parui are adequate replacements?

pacman is not a replacement but the standard package manager from Arch.
octopi is just a GUI frontend for pacman.
paru is just an AUR helper.
You can use pacseek in the terminal as a replacement for octopi.

Pacman, makepkg, and checkupdates is all that is ever needed in an Arch system. But you run Garuda.

that’s why i have asked if i can safely remove it  not gonna remove everything

Personally, I always install Octopi in Plasma. But never, ever the notifier. There’re updates daily. Who needs to be reminded? And I only use it in certain circumstances.

What I am suggesting is to learn the tools you’ve been given in Garuda and the fundamentals of package management in Arch & Arch-based systems.

well i haven’t installed notifier for octopi, not sure why i got it, but after some system update it started to pop out in task bar

not all tools are needed so i’m disabling or removing if not being used. Also i use garuda gaming edition for gaming platform, so i wan’t that system to be as stable as possible due it’s rolling release nature garuda is very stable

fundamentals or package managements? you mean pacman commands ? i’m using them daily, do not have any issue with them

The notifier is an optional dependency, is how it was probably installed.

but strangely enough i haven’t found any package called octopi-notifier
that’s why i was confused where from it was installed
