How do I change the default file browse thing?

I don’t know what this is called but it’s frustrating to use periodically given the lack of an ability to insert a path (to the extent of my knowledge)
are there any alternatives I could swap to and if so how.

Delete this “inxi” picture and post your inxi not in hide-details, please.

Yeah, hope there is a solution, you can’t copy and paste a path from somewhere in this “geany”(?)
selection menu.

does that apply to i3 though or is that for dragonized?

(fixed the garuda-inxi)

Thunar is fairly customizable. I can definitely type a path into mine; you probably just need to adjust some settings to expose more of the features.

There are also a lot of plugins to further extend the functionality; see the ArchWiki for some ideas: Thunar - ArchWiki

To more directly answer your question: to change the file file browser just install another one with Pacman, then change this line in ~/.config/i3/config to call your new application:

[...]
set $preferredFileManager /usr/bin/thunar
[...]

I think its geany not Thunar

The config here says Geany is “preferred text editor”. :man_shrugging: etc/skel/.config/i3/config · master · Garuda Linux / Themes and Settings / Settings / garuda-i3-settings · GitLab

[...]

### Applications: ###

set $preferredTerminalEmulator /usr/bin/kitty
set $preferredBrowser /usr/bin/firedragon
set $preferredFileManager /usr/bin/thunar
set $preferredMailClient /usr/bin/geary
set $preferredTextEditor /usr/bin/geany
set $preferredScreenCaptureTool /usr/bin/flameshot gui

[...]

I don’t really know what Geany is. :joy:

Geany is a text app like Kate.

But you want to change settings from thunar (dolphin)

Okay, so…there is no file manager being discussed here after all?! :joy:

I’ll just see myself out…

Yes, just check if post 2 is helpful.

If not, post the app name you use. Please

it’s not from that, thunar is not installed and it’s the dialogue option that appears out of options like “browse” or “open file”

my bad on not clarifying

?
Is the file preferred file browser in i3wm.

Did post 2 help?

no it is not, nemo is

Check the manual, please.

Well the thing there isn’t nemo. It’s been the same thing since thunar was installed and nemo wasn’t.
