Hi, From UK

Hiya, New to Linux(10 days) tried Mint, didn’t get on with it, Bazzite I liked it but wanted to explore a bit, CachyOS not for me(yet), finally Garuda(dragonised) loved the look although not as easy as Bazzite but I persevered and today i succeeded in my aims which were to be able to do everything that I do in windoze, it involved using the terminal as well as installing flatpacks . First Steam because most of my games are there, that was really easy, then Chrome because it gives me access to both Netflix and Amazon prime and YouTube, Chrome was a bit harder because it wouldn’t download and install using the default browser(that’s how I did it with both Mint and Bazzite), bit of searching and found out how to install it using the terminal. But the thing I am most pleased about is I have installed Battle.net using bottles which enabled me to download my favourite ARPG Diablo 2 resurrected. The biggest problem I have had is with the archaic Unix file system, I mean what a palaver just reading an external drive/flash drive. So I can now get rid of windoze forever. Yes it’s going to take me years to become as fluent with Linux as I am with windoze, but hey my first windoze machine was 3.1 and I didn’t like it then, BUT windoze 11 was the final straw, it’s not an OS it’s a data mining virus. Sorry about the rant, but I’m a bit chuffed about my entry into Linux and this old dog being able to learn new tricks.

First off Welcome.
Not a rant but the normal way most of us feel after ditching Micro:heavy_dollar_sign:oft

Welcome! Hope you’ll enjoy garuda as much as we do!

Smarter than I am. I find Bottles to be the most obfuscated, poorly documented, piece of software I’ve ever come across. I’ve given up on it multiple times.

How so? With FAT32 (vfat), ExFAT, and NTFS, they usually just work. *n*x FSes require an extra step or two, though.

Rants are good, now and then.
