Help needed to install opera browser: error after trying to install with octopi

So I just reinstalled Garuda and I’m trying to install Opera but when i try to install it from octopi i get this message, asking me about editing the pkgbuild i think,

Then if i say yes, it just hangs. same if i say no.

What can I do? Opera is the browser i use along with Firedragon. all my stuff is there.

Thnak you.

I did try searching but can’t find a similar problem again.

It’s not hanging, I believe it is waiting for you to review the PKGBUILD or quit it pushing button q to proceed with installation.
At least this is the behaviour with paru, I’m not 100% sure Octopi fully embeds paru. I never use and we discourage GUI tools for installation, and especially for updating.
If you want:

paru opera

Exit from PKGBUILD with q and confirm installation.

Another tip: this symbol means that a reboot is pending after the last update.
Always do it before installing new packages.

I almost always use terminal to update but occasionally I do use Octopi for some stuff. Why is using a GUI package manager discouraged in your opinion? I’ve never heard anyone mention this until very recently. (And certainly never heard this recommendation with any other distro I’ve used.)

It is an opinion based on the experience of so many issues reported because of Octopi and the like.
Technically (I am not a developer) maybe it is due to the fact that these packages, beyond the GUI, add avoidable SW layers, which are not pacman and related libraries: octphelper, octopi-sudo, … bah

Opera is not prebuilt for you in chaotic-aur, so you must use the linux way.

Ty. this worked so well. I just pressed q. lol.

i also thought i might had to edit something… and i was clueless what i’d have to do.

this had never happened to me before, and I’ve installed plenty of things from AUR mostly using Pamac.

Ty very much kind ser. You are an angel.

I too rebooted immediately. Seems I had forgotten about it. Ty.
