Hi, I’m a complete newbie and want to install garuda linux. But
1)I’m using windows 10 and kali Linux dualboot.
2)also got parrot os in grub/boot manager (i don’t remember what it’s called ) since i used it from pen drive while live boot. So total 3 os to choose but parrot is broken.
now I want to removed all 3 OS, best if i can wipe disk. But i need to keep data.
How to install garuda keeping my data? Can i make a disk partition and keep backup then remove OS and install garuda?
If any solve, method, please explain.
Sorry if i made it over complicated and advance thanks.
Please boot into Garuda, open Konsole, enter garuda-inxi, post the output here with ~~~ above and ~~~ below your inxi output. Then launch either KDE partition Manager or GParted, do a screen print of the drive in question, save it locally, and then include it in your post.
for the linux side move your home copy to another drive. remove the partitions you dont want in the windows partition tool make one empty exfat partition. Then when you install garuda click the replace partition an replace the exfat one.
For windows I guess use some backup tool? I think it has one built in still. if you want to keep it. just to be safe long term.
Then all you have to do is use the windows partition tool and remove the linux partitions on the drive then make a empty one and you are good to go. you can backup windows to another drive if you want.
Main thing windows has to be installed first. Since it is just install garuda an be sure not to erase the windows partition.
So i can
1)backup my data to a separated partition
2) install garuda to current kali linux partition
3)wipe windows partition
4)remove kali, windows and parrot from boot manager
Note: i won’t use windows anymore even as dualboot, i just have personal data on windows which i wanna save.
You don’t need to remove windows. That’s basically a lot of extra work for no real benefit. You can, though back it up to a separate drive like a physical separate drive.
When you install Garuda it should only show windows and it you never have to click on windows. This way your files are there no need for weird partitions.
As for the stuff in the boot loader, just remove it from the boot loader. If it still shows up, you can remove it from the EFI, but that requires extra work and isn’t really worth the hassle. You just have to have your boot loader set to Garuda and you can remove everything else from the list in bios
As for kai, when installing Goa and you click replace partition, just click on that partition, from the drop down and it will take care of the rest.
yeah you can do that or just don’t touch the windows drive but, yes both are fine as long as you back it up. an after you install you can make a folder an put the backup files there.
U could also consider to install arch out of ur debian derivate, its just a bit more work, over doing the route to format, possibly break bootloader partition(s), and so on. Just did it couple days ago, to get arch on an google cloud vps. Its a bit tricky, but not impossible.
Chatgpt is an great help, if ure new to chrooting and installing new distro, etc.
Well, chatgpt is an great help to get spoonfed with copy&paste. It wont become more easier at all. U sure that Arch Linux is the right distro for u then? It has an steep learning curve at all.
