GRUB update broke normal laptop boot

Yes, you don’t have a fallback bootloader and yes, my info to solve the issue is no help for you. :person_gesturing_no:

Do you think it could work with kernel-lts ?

Of course, you can install other kernels, but this have nothing to do with
“GRUB update broke normal laptop boot”
Over grub the kernel is loaded.
The “problem” is / was one step before.
Is your issue now solved ?

Unfortunately not… Just waiting for a response… I wrote a mail to grub developpers…

hi =)

maybe you can try this way if its go broke again :man_shrugging:

Hey again,

Just trying that

where is the update-grub comand before you reboot?

@FenDanT you can keep grub in the ignore list, it will be fine and should not cause problems.

You can keep using Garuda Linux normally.

Yes, right and

The “problem” is the sd card drive in mbr mode.
Grub uefi / gpt + mbr mode = :no_entry:
If grub + uefi or bios (csm) grub + mbr

This is then a error info that grub can’t handle this. But grub installs itself on the correct drive

Is there a way to change this mbr mode for my sd card ?

Only unmount, disconnect this drive, then garuda-update or garuda-update -a.

yeah but this mean you need to safe all data where you need . Delete it an create a new partiton table in GPT. Then you install your Favorite OS again and bring data back on it .

PS. just my experiances i would not do a OS on a SD Card anyway those readings and writings altering the SD so quick you newer now how long it is working. I do hae 2 SD Cards they are dead now and some friends same issue. Dosnt matter if its a High End SD or a cheap one just my experiances at all.

I don’t believe the SD card being MBR has anything to do with grub failing to load.

yeah it isnt the problem on mbr. My other thinking was just reinstall the Bios if there is a real problem also a mmc is installed or used and this make trouble too . May he has the bug of windows destroying SSD . Thats why i keep it seperatly and dont install it on same drive  i use it realy rarely .

Yes right, current i have the info that dropbox is used on this drive.
I didn’t know this, but that can explain why this problem. (no knowledge, sorry, never used dropbox with linux)

yeah could be too. i didnt use it too. I dont like clouds anyway. Filesharing over network or setup access via ssh its just fine for me

I have the same issue. Downgrading grub solves it thanks to all of you

Do you have Dropbox installed with files on a sd card ?

I have a second Lenovo laptop with the same config, using Dropbox with files on a sd card and i don’t have any problem when updating grub…

Here’s the inxi of the second one :
