First post, appreciate your forgiveness if I missed something. I installed Garuda on my PC a few weeks back and I’ve been facing an issue that’s proven to be difficult to describe and therefore a bit difficult for me to search on. I have found somewhat similar issues with ‘graphical glitches’ when waking from sleep, but they all appear to be specific to Nvidia whereas I run AMD and I don’t have the options to follow the remediation steps on them.
On my primary monitor… The best way I can think to describe the issue is that when I wake from sleep, my open applications will be stuck in an invisible or partially usable state. Sometimes I can click on them in the taskbar and it seemingly does nothing at all in the main area of the window despite the launcher acting like it is the active application now (the desktop does become non-interactive like something is above it) or sometimes it will go into kind of a flickering state where it seems like it’s trying to run the maximize or minimize animation over and over. I.e., I’ll see the desktop for a fraction of a second then see parts of the window maximizing animation for a fraction of a second, then it will repeat. I think of it as the window flickering in and out. If I turn off the animations, then we just get locked into the invisible state consistently. These windows are completely unusable and I haven’t been able to find a way to interact with them beyond closing and reopening them.
On my secondary monitor… I have an issue that I think is related, but it does present differently, I’ll still have a non-interactive window, but it will seem to think of itself as maximized but only be taking up the top-left 2/3rds of the screen with empty desktop behind. This also occurs when waking from sleep if I had an item present on the secondary monitor.
I also have a third monitor but I haven’t noticed any odd issues there, it is small and not usable for much. These issues started before I started using it.
One thing I’ve found out is that if I un-maximize these windows and then re-maximize them (actual minimize does not work) from the window buttons widget in KDE, they will usually act like normal until the computer wakes from sleep again. This works a bit more than half the time.
I’m kind of stuck here because it’s kind of hard for me to think of how to describe the issue in concise terms and I’m not sure what exactly is controlling these processes. It feels kind of like I’m at that stage where I’m on the phone trying to describe that weird noise my car is making to my mechanic. Really appreciate any help anyone can offer.
I see that it’s good form to post the results of garuda-inxi instead of detailing out specs, that should be below:
