Hi all, I am contemplating on swapping a RTX 4070 GPU (with Nvidia drivers, not Nouveau) for a RX 9070 XT, what would be the best procedure for this?
Thanks.
If you search bit of the forum you will find similar topic.
But basically prior swapping, remove the NVIDIA drivers, replace card, install MESA drivers.
Also share your garuda-inxi.
If you have an AMD CPU with an iGPU its possible you have MESA drivers, which basically means that the moment you put the new card in all will work out of the box. That was my case.
I did do some searching, but didn’t see a post which seemed relevant, I don’t use hyprland (I think? - I don’t know for sure).
Output of garuda-inxi down here, I have a Ryzen 7 5700X3D so no iGPU present. To remove NVidia drivers, open Octopi, search nvidia then uninstall everything which is installed?

If you post the Garuda-Inxi, not just a few lines of it, we know what you are using.
This post also says, swap and good to go, then you can delete the Nvidia stuff.
Again, from the template, you delete, from your first post.
- After rebooting, post the FULL output of
garuda-inxi
in the body of the post (not linked externally, or collapsed with the “hide details” feature)
- Format terminal output (including your
garuda-inxi
) as a code block by clicking the preformatted text button (</>) , or put three tildes (~) above and below the text

If you read errors …deinstall step by step
after this step → shutdown → disconnect the power cable → change gpu →
boot the the system. (think on the power cable)
The driver for your amdgpu is integrated in the kernel. Your system should run.
AMD GPU relevant software steps to install → point 2 (if not installed)
→ reboot → post your inxi please again
You are using KDE from Garuda in the Mokka flavor
My motherboard is at the latest version already so couldn’t do an update. I’ve swapped the GPU’s out and my monitor is displaying the desktop so, so far so good.

Just tried some games out, most won’t start. In Steam there is window popping up and closing right away, can’t read what it says. In Heroic Launcher, one game says my system doesn’t support DX12. Is this due to missing Mesa packages perhaps?
mesa
is installed.
But vulkan
is missing.
Try a simple garuda-update
and check if the required packages are included. If not, then post the output of:
pacman -Qs vulkan
Installing vulkan-radeon seemed to have done the trick! Thanks everyone for the help.
Wrong.. equal if you have board rev 1.0 or 1.1
You have b version and it´s possible to update version g (my mind)
