Got nailed by an Update, Need Nvidia Driver

Hi All,

I seemed to have gotten nailed by a recent update, snapshots did not work so I had to reinstall. So I cant tell if any Nvidia driver is installed or just not running...I tried looking online for specifics but being a linux newbie, the instructions left something to be desired for readability, or perhaps its just me.

I know for a fact on my old install I had driver: 470.129.06

Id like to download that exact driver if possible as it was stable (I went with open source). But Im not sure how to tell what Nvidia components are already installed or if perhaps something just isnt running properly. I recall when I did the install for the setup that is now toast, it seemed to have downloaded or installed on its own, so the opposite here appears true.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Im trying to get back up and running as quickly as possible.

I was able to run nvidia-smi command just now and it says

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIAdriver is installed and running.

To save nvidia-settings it need sudo but there a no nvidia-driver installed.

Search in forum about, I do not use notebooks with 2 GPU’s and can’t help.
Last driver is nvidia v: 515.65.01 but I use it in desktop

This isnt a notebook (its a desktop) and I dont care about the 2nd GPU

Ok, you are right, no notebook, but 2nd gpu is nvidia and you wrote you need nvidia driver, so I am lost and out.

Appreciate it anyway.

I got it, in Pacman GUI I was able to locate what I needed. I got the 470xx-dkms and looks like the video driver. is now installed

This appears to be solved, so I will mark a solution and close the thread.
