Garuda Rani isn't booting on fresh Mokka install

Heyo, for some reason Rani isn’t showing up on boot. I have a fresh install of Mokka that I’m trouble-shooting.

I’ve tried running it through both the GUI and terminal (I didn’t recieve any feedback or errors when running in terminal) and it still doesn’t boot.
I’ve tried to re-install garuda-rani, but didn’t receive any errors or things of note and the issue persists.

I’ve searched around for possible direction here and on reddit, but the other posts about this topic have been less than helpful in my case.

ty for the assist. :3

This means it’s opening up when you start it manually (via start menu for example) ?

Your statement later confuses me. Please clarify.

If it’s not opening at all, please use --enable-logging as parameter when opening via console and post eventual output here.

If it doesn’t auto start, check ~/.config/autostart, is there a Rani desktop item?

Rani is not opening at all, regardless of method, apologies for the confusion.

I do not see any “Rani desktop” inside of ~/.config/autostart folder, just a file called initial-setup.sh which doesn’t contain any lines referring to rani that I can make out.

Perhaps this can solve your problem. Reinstall both firmwares.
sudo pacman -S linux-firmware-intel linux-firmware-amdgpu
If not installed Intel Compute Runtime
sudo pacman -S intel-compute-runtime
and switch from mesa to mesa-git (say yes to all, if ask)
pacseek mesa-git or paru -S mesa-git
after this pls reboot and test. Result = ?

Unfortunately, “reinstalling” isn’t really a thing on Linux. This is only “helpful” when there are pacman hooks involved that get triggered on a reinstallation or if there are corrupt files. Neither of which seems to be the case here.

The intel-compute-runtime is only useful for oneAPI or OpenCL.

May you try launching Rani like so:

garuda-rani --enable-logging --in-process-gpu

Also, regardless of outcome, may you share the output of:

DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo; glxinfo

ty again for the help so far!

This unfortunately doesn’t seem to be the full output. One of the commands appears to be missing.

Ok, I managed to get the full output this time! (I think)

DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo; glxinfo:

ty!

Hmm, I’m still missing the output from the AMD GPU here for some reason.

  1. dgpu (intel) and 2. igpu (amd) it’s not default for me. (i read this for the first time)

Yeah, I’m not certain what’s up with that here. Both GPUs should be usable/active.

Ok, so I ran these commands a second time just now to see if I’d get a different output/what would happen:

terminal and file wise I got the same outputs as the first time but:

It seems like it lagged out my whole desktop environment: causing my Background and GUI to flicker black before returning to normal and the bottom menu to disappear completely. All of my inputs then began to lag severely (Like a 3-4 second delay on typing and mouse movements). a Reboot cleared this and returned functionality to normal. The web browser and YouTube video I was watching at that moment began to lag/drop frames as well, however the audio remained unaffected and continued to play normally.

Just thought this was notable.

Pls make a bios update first.
Think on the right settings after. AHCI mode / UEFI not CSM / Secure - Fast - Boot off /
Resize Bar enable.
As Info: the Intel B580 was released in Dez. 24 and important updates are in the new firmware.

What i don’t understand is that, that your igpu (cpu/gpu) is not device 1.
You have a option for the priority igpu <->dgpu in the bios, pls set this to igpu first.
Then test again. (my mind)
And if you don’t really need your igpu then disable the gpu in bios. (or only as test)

It ■■■■ing worked:

Updated my bios to latest version (3.30), disabled dGPU only mode and set my graphics preference to iGPU. Now Rani boots and I was able to menu navigate and everything!

Thank you all so much! bunch of lifesavers the lot of ya!

I’ll see if it holds on multiple boots before setting as solved, but it think we got it!
