Can you describe the problem a little bit better? What does this mean? When you load VMWare Workstation, it just closes on its own? Can you describe the steps you’re taking and describe the experience of what’s going wrong?

1._ Load vmware Workstation.
2._ Load VM.
3._ After few minutes, vmware Workstation close. So, I open it again.

From your title it is hard to determine what your problem really is.

However you can read here for a solution:

otherwise you probably just missing linux-headers, which you can install for your respective kernel e.g

sudo pacman -S linux-headers

or maybe even check to see if you enabled virtulisation.

Headers and Virtualization on BIOS, both OK.

May can be that I’m running Plasma(Wayland)?

Not really, probably just bad configuration.

You need to reboot after installing the linux-headers / necessary configuration affecting kernel.

Please go through the VMware wiki to trouble shoot your configuration… that documentation helps a lot.

Or you can choose to use something else like gnome-boxes, qemu or even try virtual box.
P

Did you turn on virtualization in the BIOS?

Headers already installed, reinstalling… BIOS Virtualization is active. VM load, but, after loaded, moments after, vmware closes.

Error persist. I open vmware, open vm, work in vm as long as a minute, and, suddenly, vmware closes. It doesn’t crash, it dissapear (like minimized), because, I load it again vmware and the vm is open as I leaved it before the error.

Can you tell me what’ is wrong?

May be the version 25H2-4 is bad since vmware is Broadcom now?

It happen with Garuda KDE Lite VM, Manjaro KDE VM, and Windows 10 VM in vmware Workstation.

It is a bug?

Last two weeks a go, I could work in my VM’s, right now vmware closes itself.

Looks like it. Read through the comments on pages 1-5 for version 25H2-X, which mention the same dkms build errors and the sudden closing of vmware-workstation:

As @nepti says, the workaround is here:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/vmware-workstation

In comments is mention that one of this libs must be downgrade to ver 1.11.0-1

downgrade libxkbcommon-x11 → 1.11.0-1
downgrade libxkbcommon → 1.11.0-1

So, in order to be sure, I downgraded both libs.

And, problem resolved!

May the next update of this libs will be fixed or it some bug of Bradcom vmware-workstation?

I’ll put my money on Broadcom, anything they touch turns to sh*t. :poop:

I can confirm this is an issue, however it might not be Garuda’s issue to solve.

The application crashes unexpectedly and usually a few seconds after launching a VM.

This happened after an update to both Plasma 6.5 and VMware so I thought one was to blame, but even holding back both plasma as a group and vmware-workstation (not upgrading from 17.6.4-6 to 25H2-4) the crashes happen after an update and reboot.

Edit:

Holding those packages seems to work for now, thank you.

@zoeruda OK, but, how to void this packages upgrade instead of update and downgrade them again?

You can edit your /etc/pacman.conf file and uncomment the line that says # IgnorePkg = and change it so that it shows IgnorePkg = pkg1 pkg2 pkg3 (replace pkg1 pkg2 pkg3 with the names of the packages you want to ignore updates for, making sure they’re separated by a space).

Once the issue is resolved, you can remove the entry and comment out the line again.

Thanks @shayaknyc I was editing /etc/pacman.conf but, it was already changed as you say.

May be last update was “working around” this issue?

Not sure I follow. To confirm, you already have IgnorePkg = vmware-workstation in your /etc/pacman.conf file? If so, did you downgrade to a previous version prior to 25H2-4 ? If so, subsequent garuda-update executions will ignore the vmware-workstation package for updates until you remove it, and it should continue to run on the previous version you downgraded to.

Thanks for the explanation.
