Garuda Gamer not booting after 6.13.7-zen kernel update

I ran garuda-update last night, which updated my kernel from 6.13.6-zen1 to 6.13.7-zen1 and now my PC seems to freeze at boot at the ‘loading kernel’ step. If I choose Advanced > xyz with Fallback option from the boot loader (or otherwise select a snapshot prior to the update) it boots just fine.

Anyone else running into this? Happy to provide whatever other info might be helpful.

Can you provide your

IMMEDIATELY → Bios update  -->(think on fastboot+secureboot)

Any error messages inside logs ?
Looks like a error with the update (kernel/driver also grub) → run a working snapshot → update again
and ?

Well that’s embarrassing… bios update was on my post-build checklist but totally forgot about it; thanks for that reminder!

I’m not seeing any errors that jump out, but not certain I’m looking in the right place. I am looking with journalctl -xb. Also tried just grepping journalctl for initramfs, linux-zen, dracut, etc.

Sometimes not easy to see “early” boot process problems.
Inside your grub.cfg: delete the option “quiet” (kernel parameter) and boot again the system.

  • no update-grub please + insert again if your issue is history or if the system make a necessary update make the grub default script this for you

but my mind is → run in your working snapshot → update again → and ?
All other, if you like to spend the time.

I think I’ve ruled out the kernel as an issue, but instead the initramfs. I’ve tried rebuilding that with dracut-rebuild which runs fine, but still can’t boot without using fallback initramfs. I’ve also tried the snapshot, update, etc to no avail.

With your nvme0 all fine ?
Reinstall grub (pacman) + update grub
Or as test you can install another kernel for your cpu example linux-znver5
with

sudo pacman -S linux-znver5 linux-znver5-headers

also this

systemd-analyze

Is there any terminal output when you run this?

Now I did not receive this but it was going around after someone tried to update there laptop. came up in telegram chat.
The GRUB bootloader at /EFI/Garuda was updated, but it seems like you are not using the Garuda Linux bootloader by default. If you are using 'rEFInd' bootloader, you can safely ignore this. Otherwise, please change your EFI boot priorities to prioritize the "Garuda" bootloader. Running 'grub-install' will do this automatically. It’s a pure stock garuda install no bootloder changes.

I guess it was at the end of the update. I cant say its related but more like it might pop up this week.

Interesting; i didn’t notice anything like this. In any case, I just took the 6.13.8 kernel update and it seems to have fixed this. Hopefully the update to 6.14 continues to be fine when that shows up.

If there are issues use a snapshot go back an wait about a week or tell forum issues on it quiet down. but 1 week is all things normally take.
