FPS Drops after 30 Minutes of Gaming

Okay - BIG News

It has something to do with Steam.

I downloaded Rocket League via Heroic Games Launcher, enabled Proton and tested it.

And I get 144Hz - Certainly I did not played it yet over an hour.
So maybe I spoke to soon, but seeing already the right 144Hz is a good sign.

So does this help in anyway?

Next

I removed discord-screenaudio and installed normal discord.

Since than I get back my 144Hz when I play Steam Games.

I tested it now for about 30min again.
But the Stutters keep happening.

I removed orphans, cleared package cache, caches and updated the System

Anything else I could removed safely?
Check for Software Conflicts

quite a miracle that you found that discord-screenaudio problem. check what dependancies discord-screen audio has and if discord-screenaudio is an optional dependency of anything else. any of these packages you should make sure you actually need and also of course understand exactly why it is installed. tbh I don’t use discord or an form of social media or communication outside of a browser for these kinds of related problems/reasons and privacy related reasons.

is this the discord-screenaudio you talk about? AUR (en) - discord-screenaudio or did you use the flatpack?
if so you are going to want to comment on this and maybe also their git about this problem perhaps once you figure out more of what is happening.

also this bug is interesting and maybe related and btw this whole project is not longer recommended by the dev nor maintained by the dev. Stream FPS suffers immensely when streaming intensive games · Issue #50 · maltejur/discord-screenaudio · GitHub

also I am assuming you restarted the system after removing discord-streamaudio but if not maybe that would be worth the time.

I checked the dependencies and the optional
pacman -Qi
but from what I can tell they seam all imported

And since the removing of the unused packages
pacman -Qdt
does not list anything so…

I don’t know if it will work for you, but you could also try this link:

How to install Webapp Discord

It saves you a headache every time you have to update Discord, it’s the one I use and it works really well.

Try enabling the Steam overlay.
Some update they did recently has changed the behaviour of this option.

I was having the same issue with HLL and was trying everything to fix, as after 30 mins there were massive slowdowns making the game unplayable.

Found some other users had the same problem and discovered this fix
good luck

on the right track here…

i bet steam overlay was on by default for RL…?

Before boot, basically run you PC on single monitor and try out games.

This is because there is a BUG not sure if for Wayland or X11 or both. But the support for multiple monitors with different refresh rate can cause troubles.

Also maybe hit into the darkness but

try this

Disable notification toast:
Settings > Notifications > “Play sound when a notification toast is displayed”

It is enabled by default - hence wise I disabled it since I read that it could help.
And for connecting Controller [XBox One Controller], which was buggy for me when the Update Launched, it helped disabling it.
Maybe disabling Overlay overall started the problem in the other games - Well I will try it .

I played Rocket League on Heroic Games Launcher without any Issues.

I turn it off now and will try it with the other suggestions.

RL worked on your PC because it wasnt using Steam.

Try the steam game you mentioned in your OP with the steam overlay enabled

settings/ingame/Enable the overlay while in game.

It sounds like backward advice, but it worked for numerous people in the Steam thread, sorry can’t find the link right now.

For everyone who is eager to await my reply.

I must bid you to wait a little longer.

I didn’t had time to test the reply yet.
And today I can’t do it either.

I will try my best to make it happened tomorrow.

Okay - I tested it.

Steam Overlay enabled.
Play sound […] disabled.

And the stutter didn’t occur while playing For The King II.

This weekend I will try Monster Hunter World and Overwatch 2.
I will share my result after I tried both Games, if it does not occur I will mark this Issues as solved.

For now I want to thank everyone for the help, support and patient.

Good luck, I hope it works for you.

I had always disabled overlays previously, but haven’t looked back since, as HLL no longer suffers from lag after 30 mins since I changed that one setting.

It seems to be fixed

So I can confirm for now that the FPS-Drop did not happened after 30min. I tested:

  1. For The King II
  2. Overwatch 2
  3. The Spell Brigade
  4. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Summary

  1. Checked Out Temperatures and Memory / Swap
  1. Tried a Game via a different launcher
  1. Since Games ran normally via different launcher
  1. Enabling Steam Overlay which was disabled because of a Controller Connection Problem

For the Controller Connection Problem

Since turning on Steam Overlay again the Connection Problem with the Xbox Controller is back.
To elaborate the problem :

  • the Controller Connects fine when launching the game, works so far until I tap out the Game
  • After that the Controller is still recognized by the system but any Input will not transferred in the game anymore

To fix this I use the oldest trick known to mankind:

  • I disconnect the Controller from the system and connecting it back when I back in Game

Well didn’t had the problem before the steam update disabling Steam Overlay fixed the Controller Issues but had drastic consequences.
For now disconnecting the Controller seems to be the better option.

Thank you all

I thank everyone for the help and the support.
I think without the Input from everyone I would have reinstalled the System.
I want to thank especially tag and Beagle_Appreciator.
