Form templates for Issues and Assistance?

After a conversation on the Garuda community Discord/Telegram, I’ve come across this:

This seems VERY, VERY interesting for Issues & Assistance and should cut down on the amount of low quality help requests and requests missing garuda-inxi. Thoughts?

Also, psst: Don’t tell anyone, but a new tool is in the pipeline: garuda-diag, available in garuda-common-settings 2.10.0:

Generates a privatebin link automatically, together with a QR code for those cases where it’s not possible to copy-paste the link. Furthermore, it actually has a basic helper that will try to connect to the internet automatically.

This will probably replace garuda-inxi soon.

I can’t really think of a downside to any of this.

Real forum templates? Yes please! Would really streamline looking down through Issues & Assistance . A few fields of that should really help with with the clarity of the reports for sure.

Quick question. Will the QR codes for privatebin generations also be used for other things? (might be other use cases for them when copying links would be hard?)

For what else might it be useful?

What fields should we have? I’ve got some ideas, but more ideas are always better :stuck_out_tongue:

Depends on how easy it would be to pipe it into a different command like journals I guess? I know there are other ways to do sort of the same thing but still would be a nice to have.

I’m assuming these QRs would this also work in nicely TTY or other situation where GUIs are not present? If so, very nice! :+1:

Some kind of format like you see with issues on github/gitlab/etc . Some would be specific for the subcategory within Issues & Assistance of course.

Some generic field ideas I can think of on top of my head are:

  • When did the issue first occur and what do you think triggered it? (and is it reproducible?)

  • Have you checked to see if the issue has been already reported? (also any other checks that is covered in what we have in old templates that wouldn’t be too overwhelming to pile on)

  • Is this issue related to a specific hardware or setup? (usually tags & categories cover this but they often go unused at first)

So basically, you want a command to upload to the Garuda privatebin?

Yep! That’s the main requirement for these. Unfortunately, the more compact QR codes don’t render correctly, so these will have to do.

Long as you don’t think that is too out of scope  . Just thinking it would make as a nice redundancy just in case other ways (or sites) aren’t working right.

Can be done! Just as a note: garuda-diag already includes most useful journalctl logs in theory! Also, what do think the command should be? garuda-privatebin? So echo hi | garuda-privatebin?

Sounds like that fit our usual naming conventions. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Will be available in garuda-common-settings 2.11.0 when the package builds.

Hey, that would even compensate for some of the lack of manners exhibited by some of our contemporaries.

Okay, joking(?) aside…
Without going into detail, this is a good and actually long overdue approach tackling this well-known problem.

It seems Garuda Team never stand still for even a second. Really Impressing :+1:

Really useful tool, but the QRs don’t work in my testing

They work for me! Are you sure the entire QR code is visible for you?

OK it worked now on a different app, after some fiddling around.

I’ve gone ahead and switched things around a little, should work more reliably now.
