Flickering issues with dell xps plus 9320

Hello guys,

I'm running Garuda on my dell xps plus 9320. the current video drivers are: modesetting and unfortunately they are awful. Very high flickering is experimented on my laptop.

Here the output of the command:

Graphics:

API: OpenGL v: 4.6 Mesa 22.3.4 renderer: Mesa Intel Graphics (ADL GT2)
    direct-render: Yes

I would like to switch from modesetting into intel.

Do you know which is the best way to do that?

Update

I've checked the intel module i915 is loaded. lsmod shows that loaded.

the kernel parameters as recommended are right.

Welcome
We do not need sudo for inxi.
And the template ask for garuda-inxi, check the difference, please edit your post.

You are already using the Intel driver. As for modesetting, that loads the graphics drivers early for you–I think you need that, see this note from the ArchWiki:

The Intel kernel module should load fine automatically on system boot.

If it does not happen, then:

  • Make sure you do not have nomodeset as a kernel parameter, since Intel requires kernel mode-setting.

I would forget about the drivers and test another intervention instead, for example switching to Wayland or trying a different hardware configuration.

ok. i've edited posting the graphic parts of the garuda-inxi command. it should be enough.

i do not think so it's a problem of the hardware. there are definitely some issues in the configuration. when i've installed garuda from the live usb the video was perfect. then when i've updated garuda after the installation has ended the problems started. so something new, more up to date, fscked up things.

It is enough for me. :man_shrugging:

Everyone else happy? To the bin it goes. :white_check_mark:

it's important to notice that Intel graphic module is loaded. lsmod command reports it as loaded.

I'm running out of ideas. any other inputs are very appreciated.

Try other kernel, lts, mainline ...
No flickering on lenovo i3wm here with zen kernel.

going to try

seems that only the LTS solves the issue with the video BUT running it does not load anymore the Wifi so need to debug why the wifi died with the LTS version
