Firefox-based browsers freeze on right-click

Hello, fellow Garudians.

I am using Garuda Gnome edition and my packages are all up to date. I noticed that after update to firefox-96.0.1-1 my browser was freezing frequently and it was not playing any YouTube videos anymore. When I investigated further, I noticed that the browser was usable to browse and switch tabs as long as I did not try to play any web video or right-click anywhere in the browser, be it on a page or on a tab to bring up the context menu.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any idea of what might be wrong?

I tried to start the browser from the command line to see if any obvious errors are reported, but the only output was:

ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.
ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.
ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.
ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.
ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.

And nothing more.

So I tried with librewolf 95.0.2-1 and firefox-developer-edition 97.0b3-1 and they both exhibit the same behavior.

On the other hand, Chromium and MS Edge stable work just fine and can both play video and show the context menu on right-click.

Here is my inxi outpit:

Disabled all extensions?

Yes, all extensions are disabled. I have only a few:

  • UBlock Origin
  • Privacy Badger
  • HTTPS Everywhere
  • CleanURLs
  • Gnome Shell extension

Even with them all disabled, the browser still freezes.

I even renamed ${HOME}/.mozilla to .mozilla.old and started with a totally new profile. Still freezing on right-click. And YouTube is not playing either.

In Gnome is FF standard Browser?
Why the thread is in #issues-assistance:installer-images ?

Did you check web for same behavior?

Firedragon work fine too.

Sorry, I was trying to put it in Issues & Assistance, no idea how it ended in Garuda Installer images...

Yes, firefox was the default browser. When I installed Chromium, I selected it to be default. The issue with FF did not change.

I just installed FireDragon and it is not even starting.

OK, the error sits in front of the computer.

I updated my gnome shell extensions to the latest version because I was tired of all "there is a new version..." notifications. I thought I restarted the gnome-shell, but apparently I was mistaken. I think that was causing the issue, because after I logged out and logged in again, all was resolved.

Sorry for the bother. :grimacing:

I am now moving this thread to #4xx:precondition-failed as OP should have tried this solution prior to opening this topic.
