I could care less if Microsoft wanna know if I’m doing research or watching porn personally lmao
A couple more Vivaldi themes...
I have had quite a few more Vivaldi themes approved. Should I post them here or start a dedicated thread?
I think it will be better to start a new thread else it will be an OT (I think) because it is named as “Favourite Web browser”
Summary
Just an opinion ![]()
I agree, we Vivaldi people have really hijacked this thread enough already I think. ![]()
@Colin if you would like to start a new thread in Showcase to feature your Vivaldi themes, I can move over the ones you have posted so far.
I’ll sort out a new thread tomorrow.
Thanks for the mention!
Yeah I've been meaning to put in the custom BeautyLine icons, and one time I did try it succesfully when the icon feature was still in Beta, but it looked so much worse, because the icons weren't designed for Vivaldi. They were in general too large, and had horizontal and vertical inconsistencies that were very eye jarring, like lines that don't line up between icons and different line widths all over the place (like I found the left sidebar and the bottom panel bar look like a mess). In this GitLab Link I mentioned it would be really nice if there was like design specs for BeautyLine, that would be very helpful.
Anyways, definetly planning on implementing BeautyLine icons, but first want to edit them so they are scaled down a bit to give a bit more padding on the sidebar, and get some more uniform line width and some nicer line alignment. Given there's more interest than I thought in this, I'll try and get it done sometime soon (maybe next two months or so, kinda busy right now)
But there's one more thing:
Custom CSS is now a thing in Vivaldi, so with that, we can have a truly a completely Dr460nized Vivaldi theme. Btw, any design specs for what makes Dr460nized theme? I need help here.
These are awesome threads because everyone's opinion is helpful.
I've been using Brave for a while. Prior was FF. However, I'm happy to use any distro's variant that is based on Librewolf. Garuda or Cache browsers come to mind.
My setup is quite specific.
Librewolf is my main browser. I use it for my own business, and for personal browsing. I also have a container tab just for Youtube, so I can use it without logging in (don't have a Google account), but still keep cookies enabled, so I can get good recommendations and of course adblock. But then also it doesn't track between tabs. I also re-enable remembering my browsing history and reopening tabs after I close. So I treat it as a hardened Firefox, rather than for max privacy.
Firefox I use for when logging into and using client's systems. Like I have Office365 accounts with some clients, which I access from there. I also use normal Google search WITH ads in this browser, as for work it can be useful.
I use Mullvad for any private browsing, work or personal.
Then I have Brave for streaming TV like Netflix, and it bypasses my VPN (unless I want to access a specific other country) so I don't get login/playback issues. After Proton makes their web VPN extension less buggy, I'm going to test it out as a quick way to access different regional content directly from the browser.
I also use DeGoogled Chromium for testing, installing ROMs on phones and so on.
I would say my favorite web browser is vivaldi because of how customizable it is. It has a fair set of flaws like not following system theme, over-engineered search bar and stuff but overall it's okay.
I spent a lot of time getting my high contrast theme just right and then chrome decided to update and ruined everything by removing the white lines around address bar, search bar, etc. So like any decent developer I wrote my own css overriding the changes brought by chrome. ![]()
I also use brave for ad-free music and personal mail and webdev work; firefox for college related stuff, chrome because some government sites refuse to open anywhere but google chrome and firedragon to communicate with the community and read some interesting articles and stuff like:
https://wiki.osdev.org/Expanded_Main_Page
and so on.
i use Firedragon on Garuda with Brave as a secondary for the odd site that won't run proper on anything that isn't chromium and Brave on Windoze.
on my mobile device i use Iceraven and Brave also.
edit:
my Ghostery extension is reporting that Youtube and Google static and Google API's are running trackers on this forum.
Hi guys!
I am running a startup, so for me Brave is the solution.
I love Firebird(FF) and see many issues are fixed for Linux users, but most of the tools I use to work & sell my product use extensions that exist only for Chrome.
Example: AppCues to build user guided tours for my app - they need a Chrome extension. Apollo.io for email campaigns / outreach …
If such extensions would be in FF store, I would never look back for other browsers.
I use Firedragon.
As Chrome is the only other option next to Firefox, do I like to use and support something, that is still developed by another group of people, other than Google.
The changes made to Firedragon by the Garuda team - particularly the implementation of the OpenSUSE patches in order to use the KDE File Dialog - are more than welcome.
As an alternative, I am looking out for Servo, long term.
Chromium. So I can stream videos at a decent resolution & audio on this Intel rig. It’s an on-again, off-again thing. Sometimes the Stable vers. works, sometimes the Dev. Also, the standalone QTWebflix (git/AUR) does good on Netflix, sometimes on Max, typically bombs on Prime. They all work @ 1080p in YouTube, of course.
fwiw, the DRM code used differs per streaming provider.

For decent audio while streaming (and otherwise), I use jamesdsp-pipewire-bin or just plain jamesdsp, built with makepkg -si and with @dr460nf1r3 's no-crackle hack. Love it! ![]()
i like the fox too
Isn’t that a database?
The creator of this browser has also created a faster FireFox which contains some elements of FireDragon:
Thorium looks pretty darn interesting, especially since they have an iHD patch for Intel HD, incorporating VAAPI, and also straight decoder patches to enhance video decoding & streaming. ![]()
It looks like a great piece of software as it does what I want, and it does it fast. There is just one thing that puts me off it…
…this is why I mentioned the Firefox based version.
- Thorium Browser lives up to its name, at least as far as streaming videos. It beats constantly fiddling with flags.
- Installing the chromium-based Thorium also installs blink-based Thorium Shell Core, which I haven’t explored. It’s not Mercury Browser.
EDIT: Thorium browser streams @ 1080p on Netflix & Max, not so on Prime.
On Linux: Librewolf, Firefox, Ungoogled-Chromium
On GrapheneOS: Vandium, Mull, Firefox
