Extra instance of Conky

Hello everyone! Im new to Arch's ecosystem, I come from using Debian for the last 3 years as my daily driver. I kept hearing wonderful things about Garuda, so here I am giving it a shot.
I apologize in advance if Im missing anything important to share, feel free to ask and I'll post whatever we need to get this done.

This is a fresh install of Gnome Garuda, up to date:

The reason that brings me to create a new topic is that I havent found the exact information I currently require.
Since I installed conky (and I tried both ways: using the GUI and the console with the command: sudo pacman -S conky) on Garuda I have an extra instace of Conky running at startup:

❯ ps -aux | grep conky
coder 8767 0.7 0.2 613856 36548 ? Sl 15:40 1:05 conky --daemonize --pause=1

❯ pgrep -o conky
8767

Being the process 8767 the one that shouldnt be there. Now, I went through all the documentation I've found regarding this topic and as you all already know I've found nothing:

Every single time I power it on or reboot my computer, that extra instance is there. Would really like it to stop. I already have got two instances running tweaked to my liking.

What makes noise in my head is the following:

The package content of Conky for Arch gives no indication of a script or file that would tell the OS to set a new instance to autostart. As of now, Im out of ideas and places to look.
I'll list the content of directories of interest:

I dont know what Im missing, I'd really appreciate if anyone would be so kind to point me in the right direction. Thank you very much in advance!

I have been also having alot of trouble with Conky. I just uninstalled it with the hopes of everything reverting to its native state.

Definitely did not happen. I had to find all my backgrounds again and point to that file and reconfigure my menu bar and all the launchers. The one last thing that I can't seem to re-establish is my desk top icons. They appear to be behind a layer.

I have searched for Conky and it appears to be totally gone including the .hidden file and configs.

I also can't see the normal desktop right click menu. When I right click it shows me all my apps but not the regular right click desktop menu.

Is this problem related to "Extra Instance of Conky"?

Not sure if this will help, as I use i3, but I noticed something similar in i3.

In i3, my config file only starts 2 conky's, but a "top" conky shows up on the desktop even though its not in my i3 config

ps -ef has a similar line (the conky --daemonize; the others I explicitly start).

x@notapi ~]$ ps -ef | grep conky
x 962039 1 0 18:11 ? 00:00:00 conky -c /home/x/.config/conky/conky-shcts
x 962040 1 1 18:11 ? 00:00:01 conky -c /home/x/.config/conky/weather.conf
x 962233 1 1 18:11 ? 00:00:03 conky --daemonize --pause=1
x 964196 963811 0 18:14 pts/0 00:00:00 grep conky
[x@notapi ~]$

I believe (perhaps in a startup config somewhere, I've never looked too deep) the distro starts a conky without a config file. By default, conky will look for a file called "conky.conf". In my case, its in ~/.config/conky. I've never minded because the "top" was a nice conky widget, and I made a couple of customizations to it once I knew that was what defined it.

So while you may not be expecting that extra conky, it must be showing something - or maybe the default conky.conf does not have anything visual? (in which case, it is a waste of resources, but you could use it for one of your own conkys, I guess).

Hi there, welcome to the forum.
In the "Garuda Common Settings" configurations, the conky desktop file was recently (for sure for your, new, system) moved to the system-wide directory:
/etc/xdg/autostart/conky.desktop
Try to give a look there if there is anything that might help you.
Or even better, if you already created your desktop files according to the Arch wiki in ~/.config/autostart/, you can simply delete the one above...

That was it! You are a life saver, it was driving me nuts! I cant believe I missed Garuda's documentation talking about /etc/xdg/autostart directory. Thank you so much!

It won't Delete, the move to trash is not highlighted. When I click delete it says, "Could not delete file". Though that seems to be the only remnant of conky left on my machine...

That directory requires sudo privileges.

sudo rm /etc/xdg/autostart/conky.desktop

There is a problem anyway: that file will be recreated at each update of garuda-common-settings, so you should use a workaround, e.g. make it dummy (do not launch conky) and give it the immutable attribuite.

Hi there! renaming did the trick for me.

sudo mv /etc/xdg/autostart/conky.desktop /etc/xdg/autostart/conky.desktop.bak

Hope it helps!
